Well i just turned 21 last Friday and bought myself an Impreza as a birthday present.
I'm quite lucky in that i have quite a secure job with excellent prospects.
Saying that, my car is booked in to have its Tracker fitted tommorow morning, that plus my insurance bill plus a service on the 30th adds up to quite an expensive month!
Should be ok once that little lot's paid for though. <------ Famous last words....

I'm 24, got the scoob at 23 - 2 years ncb. UK98 Turbo, but with large wheels and full replacement exhaust, big brakes, Leather etc. all declared to the insurance company (they didn't care about the clear side indicators )
Got an exellent deal on the car as the previous owner was an IWOC lady who wanted her car to go to another female enthusiast as for running it...well...we don't go on holiday (although we will this year - Finnish WRC ) and are reasonably careful with the money...but we both have good jobs (husband - IT and I'm a Traffic Management/Road Safety Engineer). Just look for the best deals with parts etc, and don't get it serviced at a dealer (IMHO)...

It depends on your living circumstances IMHO. Now I'm renting a flat I can only just afford the scooby although I think it'll be too much of a sacrifice and therefore I'll likely sell it within the next year. When I was at home and if I could have remained there I'd have had enough spare cash to spend £100's every month on mods. I'd have a big turbo and FMIC by now that's for sure
Turbo bob a mechanic, eh.....local eh.....Hmmmm, could be useful

Chicken man, stop moaning you big homo!
I'd be more worried about fueling your desire for 12 year old boys, rather than the fuel in you car!
By the way everyone, this is the car he is moaning about sapping all of his money. Hard life isn't it!
Lots of love,
Forty

Are you the guy that Sipie...Simon Paterson (V-reg DBM UK) ran into recently. I remember him talking about someone he met that fiddled around and I seem to remember the mention of GTI-R's

May aswell add my bit.
I'm 25, earn about 20k, spannering the greasy bits on trains. Live with my parents, and i've had scoobs for the last 2 1/2 years. I presently have a P1.
Insurance was only £1100, which isn't too bad.
Maintenance wise, both scoobs i've owned have been extremely reliable. The only money i've spent has been on toys for them, so thats my own (and chicken mans) stoopid fault.
Servicing hasn't been that regular, as i also have a motorbike, so i keep the scoobs mileage down. (about 6,000 a year, so probably £300ish a year on servicing)
PETROL! Now thats where the money goes. Like Rob (chicken man) said, you're lucky to get 200 to a tank, which is ridiculous, but nevermind 'eh!
I think that when i eventually get my own place, the scoob may have to go, but i'll try everything i can to stop that happening!

Its my first job and im a data inputer for a bank but i am a Product Designer, so i should be looking at 20k.

21 and have an import on 3 years NCB with Tesco. Imported the car myself so that saved a fortune. The only thing that hurt the pocket which i paid this month in 1 go was the insurance and having alarm and tracker fitted.
No debts and no credit cards - all done with saving
Helps having a dad who is a subaru mechanic to otherwise i think i would have had problems!

I'm 28, married with a kid on the way, and have owned 2 Impreza's in the last 4 years. Yes, they are a money drainer, but if you work hard for it, then that is what it is all about.
It worries me that as the older ones get cheeper and more affordable, more people will buy them on a budget.
I rememeber something I read on here in the early days, "don't try to run one on a budget!", this is very true.
One way to have more money to spend on the car is to give up drinking and smoking

Gareth, totally agree.
A friend of a friend bought a scoob MY00 about 6 months ago. He's only 21, bit of a spoilt git (his mum paid for the car!), and drove it like a total ****! I told my friend that i doubt the car will last long, and surprise surpise, he wrote it off last week! Worst still, his insurance won't pay out as it had 3 bald tyres!
Now that really pi55es me off, especially as it had probably been previously owned by an enthusiast who really cared for the car, maybe even someone from this board.
In a way, it makes me glad that insurance premiums are so high, as it makes it harder for inexperienced, high risk drivers to get cover on such cars.
