Hi
I've got a mint V5 type R and i need an mot soon. It has no cat and i dont want to put it back in for 5 mins.
Does anyone know any garages near the Reading Basingstoke area where i can get an MOT. I'll put a drink in there pocket of course.
Cheers.

i heard that scoobysport may be able to swap the mid section over for you for the Mot, im not sure, it may just be a vicious rumour IMHO its worth going to a proper garage that bends the rules to get an Mot rather than a downright dishonest one. Im sure theres plenty of places that service and Mot imprezas that may be able to help you, however i dont live in your neck of the woods.

Yup, i do believe that Scoobysport provide a double catted centre section for people requireing an MOT.
I remember a thread a while ago about someone in the far south who built his own who was prepared to len it out to people.

Paul.
We have a twin catted centre section in the Hants group which you can borrow free of charge.
I think Jamie has it at the moment but get in touch and I will find out.
Cheers Paul.

Unhappy

Not very clever posting such activities on the web,I wouldn't put it past some of our finest men in blue to cause some trouble for any companies or individuals mentioned - keep it on personal mail

That's just the problem. That is as far as you know.

Try this simple question to the next traffic cop you meet- "Is it OK to ask my friend at XYZ company to swap over my exhaust system for 10 minutes so that I can pass my MOT? Oh yeah, XYZ do it all the time for lot's of people.Their address ? Oh yeah it's ....." Derrrrrr.

Follow Gossy's example above.

(P1 fully decatted)

An MOT is only a snapshot of your car at that particular time. It maybe legal the minute you leave an MOT depot but in no way guarantees it will be 10 minutes down the road. It is not a guarantee of roadworthiness or legality other than at the exact time of testing.

Agreed (obviously)in terms of the car owner, but it doesn't help the garage owner who may be complicit in helping you to avoid failing the test.

Just ask my garage and MOT site owning friend, in S. London, who got into bother with the bizzies for exactly that. They took to turning up on a frequent, if irregular, basis to effectively harass him after learning that he was being "helpful" in exactly this area. Didn't charge him with anything, but gave him a good scare and were a royal pain in the **** all the same (non scooby garage, thankfully).

I'm not saying it can't or shouldn't be done (hence why I posted that my p1 is decatted), it's just to avoid the above situation for those proprietors named when it can easily be done by sending someone a personal mail.

oh and I have got a life , thanks very much

This is true, but whats that got to do with changing your exhaust to pass the MOT?

If companies DO advertise "MOT passing measures" I'm sure the authorities would not be happy.

And yes I have had a decat vehicle in the past

Medders

That's the whole point, Companies do not advertise MOT passing measures for exactly that reason, however the individuals above have effectively done so on their behalf.

You would think that it would be worse to actually advertise & sell "illegal" exhausts in the first place, i.e. ones with no cats.

Anyway to rent out a fully legal exhaust to a customer to take away for a few days is in no way breaking the law, hey you could go to quickfit and buy a full legal system for a few days then sell it on after passing an MOT, would Quickfit take the blame for your actions ???

Surely if YOU rent out something then YOU take the blame if you are up to no good with the product.

Just to add a bit to the fire, I knew a firm who had a set of good wheels and tyres that they used to put on every car they sent for MOT, the testing station soon noticed and marked them, they then got the ministry involved and had that firm banned from that particular testing station. So it probably does happen, but who knows where it could lead!

Well I have an sti5 without a Cat

I rang the DVLA in Swansea to get clarification.. for imports

I lied and said the car was an import and came into the country without a Cat.. and was told that I should ask my MOT station for a decat test.....

How it would have passed the tests on importation (SVA) would have been interesting as I suspect all cars coming into the country have to have a Cat???

I went to the MOT staion and asked for a decat test as the vehicle had been imported without a Cat.. they did it.. I passed easily at about 1.2%... well under the 3.5% (or was it 3%)

They rang through to the 'authorities' and said that a decat test would be fine... nothing dodgy
