Talking

In addition to remembering to fill your car up before Christmas, please remember the following.

Don't drink booze before your drive

I know you have all heard it before, but having had an accident where i could have easily lost my life, and that was stone cold sober, i have a mental scar of how easy it was for me to have never seen my wife and 11 month old son again, let alone my unborn son, who was 4 months away from being born.

Imagine how your family would feel, or someone elses family.

Once again, i DO NOT wish to preach, but just thought i would remind everyone, as its easy to slip, and take things for granted.

Regards, and Merry Christmas

Steven

The police are out 'thick n fast' as well people..
Much cheaper to get a taxi than to kill or be killed..
Harsh but true!

Good reminder!!!!

I have no problems shopping anyone in for drink driving!!! I would rather do that than lose someone else close to me.

on a serious note: should have been drink & drugs, far more young people pi55ed on drugs than drink apparantly.

I was driving back from Essex down the A12 on Thursday evening and a Mondeo in front suddenly swerved and nearly hit the central barrier. I kept my distance then when he seemed stable dropped down a few gears to tear past him but just as I was level with him he swerved right at me. Thank God for Scoobie power and my reflexes! Worst thing is, I didn't get his reg. He must have been drinking at an officer party I guess.

Anyway, zapping up the M40 later on I had a short blast up the hill then slowed back down as a few cars were coming up fast behind but then slowed down... After a bit came up to mid lane road hog and did an entertaining 3 lane overtaking manouvre then back to lane one and steady 80. Then, the two cars behind flashed the mid lane hog then came level with me, gulp, two police cars! :-)

Scooby99 only Mental scars your lucky

You want to see my head, caused by a drink driver in may 1987, it also killed 2 of my best mates, the only saving grace was the B@5TERED died as well.

I would not think twice about grassing on someone I thought was over the limit

Hi Barge,
Nor me mate I'd run the ba$tard off the road first though, hopefully I'd be in my works van, The thing that really pi$$e$ me off the guy that nearly killed me walked away from what the police called a 170 mph head on smash, the only reason he survived, cos he was so pi$$ed up he didn't know what happened, I know it's not nice to say but I wish he had died, cos I still suffer with serious problems about it still and my legs were smashed up reAL bad, and the back pain I get somedays well it just does your head in, but I am alive thats what counts the best in my book, thanks to the paramedics and fire brigade and many surgeons.
Cheers
Colin

There's no excuse for drink driving,it's totally irresponsible.

If you can afford to drink then you can afford a taxi.

Everyone have a safe and merry christmas.

Btt...

this is one of my pet hates.. (I know.. ) so why when I tell some people I know do they still think its ok to drive after having four pints, but leaving it an hour... fair enough theres £500 but these are people I dont dare nudge let alone report to the police... gimme a clue..

and im not talking they will come and 'have a word with me'...

Yes they are supposed to be friends but.. they wouldnt think twice so yeah, yeah I know they aint friends...

oh and the police wouldnt turn up anyway..

Sorry if this sends this thread downhill steven... but if it keeps it up the top then good..

PLEASE DONT HAVE A GO AT ME FOR THIS.... I CAN SEE THE ERRORS IN SOME PEOPLES WAYS.. (I HOPE SO ANYWAY!)** - Reread that sounds bad... I dont condone DD..**

Unhappy

It saddens me to think that we have to have this type of discussion- I'm a great believer in personal responsibility and would never drink and drive intentionally. My advice to all is don't drink anything and drive- forget the 2 pint limit- 1 is too many.
To show how easy it is to be complacent I'll tell you my story.I was stopped in summer the morning after the night before - was tested and was *just* above the limit-down to the station for a blood test and phew I was under the limit! The police gave me a friendly word of advice and now I NEVER drive the day after a session. I arrange a lift to work or a taxi or stop drinking a good 12 (or more) hours before I have to use a car. Don't take the risk!
Another issue which I feel is forgotten is DRUG driving........I'm not sure of the effects of most drugs having never done anything more than a few spliffs in student days but I know one thing- driving while impaired is just stupid. Folks stay safe and have a very merry Christmas.

Question

Thanks for that scooby-new,

I set off reading this thread and thought 'but what about the day after'

What is the 'rule' for how long it takes before it's safe to drive?

What time should you stop drinking if your at work for 6 in the morning?
If it's 12 hours that means you can't drink the night before

Merry Christmas to all and be safe
