Advert during Driven
#2
Hi - just saw the advert (yawn)
...nice shot of the cars carefully caressing the puddle on the road (very challenging)....in a straight line....and the guy caressing the steering wheel..it just looked really strange!
I thought Mr Remington was going to announce he'd bought the company.
Basically, a ****e advert.
cheers

Hey guys.... come on...
I worked in advertising for 10 years - didn't you seen the satir..the humour. the perverbial **** take.!!? .. the fact that they'd bought the whole commercial air space for what - 5 minutes now that's expensive -
So Subaru don't get voted car of the year by Top Gear et al - so what happens they buy their competition.... come on - this is clever stuff.... you have to hand it to them....
... they have a good advertising team ... and most importantly - it got you talking

The reason why the Impreza wasn't shown is because they sell themselves. It is the other models that suck big time that they need to get people to think are of a similar vane (sp?) to the Imprezas (as in use the top model to sell the cooking ones...).
The advert was totally uninspirational in my mind and was more cheesey than a lump of Stilton (it made me yearn for Kate Humble, who I have to leave the room for whenever she appears on TG or end up feeling like throwing a brick at the TV )

Penni, I'm not sure I agree with you. I was so embarrassed to be watching it in front of my friends, they all asked "don't you have one of those?". It was so cheesy, incredibly fake - Can't they get real reviews of their cars? - , and to be honest moved me a step closer to selling my Impreza and never buying a Subaru again! (Don't worry I dont think that would really happen!) What sort of buyer are they trying to appeal to? Not anyone I know! Personally I think it was a case of negative advertising.
Am I alone or does anyone agree?

Stu, I agree, I was embarrased and only my wife was there !
Today at work I got some stick from a colleague who enjoys teasing me that his Daewoo is better than my Impreza. He thought the advert was naff and he thought the cars featured were Imprezas !

I obviously wasnt paying it enough attention cos I dont remember it being that bad!!
Mike's right - why bother pushing a car which sells itself? More to the point, the ads are not aimed at YOU - and most people wouldnt have a clue what a P1 was....

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, life would be boring if we all agreed on the same things... I still maintain it was a clever bit of advertising - in it's intention to be a wind up and **** take...
...after all - it worked didn't it.... look we're still talking about it we remember the product - at the end of the day that's all the advertisers are trying to achieve...
Top of Mind...

How can anyone defend this.
I am ASHAMED to own a Subaru after seeing this drivel. It makes the shopping chanel look like an oscar winner. I have seen better adverts for curry houises in my local cinema.
The last TV ad (JD Power winner) was also dire, as are the ads in car mags.
I am sure the Audi watersking advert is now no longer in the running for an award!
Dave.

Question, if everyone rates Drivel, sorry Driven, so lowly, why have so many of you continued to watch it? I gave up on it when they tested the 22b and failed to get it around the handling course at weathersfield faster than a lardy Audi. They just can't drive.

Moray,
Well spotted. My own excuse is that for some reason I thought that the Subaru feature was part of the 'Driven', rather than a slightly tedious infomercial.
It was the first time I've seen it, and I can't say that I'll try too hard to tune in again.
Cheers,
Alex
P.S. TG - Bring back William Woolard! LOL

Well, I just downloaded the movie from the Website. I didn't think it was as bad as you guys are making out. Pretty cheesy yes. But to be honest what did you expect? Subaru are not going to sell cars using arty farty stuff like the recent Audi on water advert. They don't have the market penetration to pull it off. However, this was reasonably factual - and probably would stick in the mind.
