It has happened.

I have decided to get rid of my Scooby over the coming weeks for some insane low price no doubt. The main reason is Subaru themselves not the product. I love my car but I cannot take Subaru's marketing strategies any longer. They are costing me a packet. Subaru's product churn is exceptionaly high compared to other manufacturer's.

In my view thay have been milking impreza enthusiasts quite hard over the past couple of years. I'm dry now.

Any one know the market value of a MY01 with 24K on the clock.

They are only milking you if you feel the need to keep up with the Jonses! Do you like your car? Then why do you need a new one? You haven't lost anything until you sell it! Sounds like you need to go and pick your toys up and stop listening to idiots on here that keep on saying 01 risiduals are shot to ****. Enjoy the car, it is great! Unless you are on the wind up?

Question

vmax

I am maybe misunderstanding you here but selling your car based on the comapanies marketing strategy seems a bit odd.

We all know we are losing a bag of money on them but until I find something more entertaining to drive then it'll stay

I could see your point if your after sales service was poor or servicing costs etc were causing you grief or you were generaly unhappy with the car but this just doesn't make any sense to me

How are their marketing strategies costing you money other than poor residuals..... which is affecting the entire 2nd hand car market anyway?

Subaru's product churn, as you put it, is very slow compared to most Japanese manufacturers, they are a small player in volumes terms. You obviously havent looked at how often Toyota or Nissan change their lineup, it's year on year.

How long did we have the classic shape scoob? bloody ages in 2 main guises, we have had the bugeye for over 2 years, the blobeye is just a facelift, nothing major is changing really.

No , Not a Wind up. I love my impreza. However I like to change to my car every 3 years. Not to keep up with the latest model but to have a car which has more of a serviceable life. I have done it quite successfully with previous cars. Where do you draw the line on servicable life of a product. For example most computer hardware is written off after 3 years service.

No car is really an investment i know that.

However the drop off on Impreza's is quite high. When compared to other cars of similar marque I can not justify the cost any more.

Cheers

Wink

vmax - buy a new mini or a beetle, the last models didn't change for about 20 years, that should help your product churn

2001 Y Reg Subaru Impreza 2.0 WRX
Silver, Saloon, 17,000 miles . ABS, Air Bag, Air-Conditioning, Alarm, Alloy Wheels, Central Door Locking, Computer, Electric Windows, Front Fog Lights, One Owner, Power-Assisted Steering, Tracker.CD player,F.S.H. £13,450.

Thats on the Autotrader atm, and its a Trade Sale. (whats the computer?) Its also the cheapest one I can find, but lots more for under 14k. Mine has 30k on it, so probably worth 10-11k trade in? Not bad from a car at 21.5k less than two years ago.

Guess at the end of the three year lease, mine will be worth about 32p + whatever petrol is in the tank at the time

Well, if you are so concerned about the money you will lose on it, then why the hell do you keep buying brand new cars????
If you buy new, then you are simply throwing the money away. It would be far cheaper to buy 6 months to a year old, and keep it for 2 or 3 years, and keep doing that. You will still lose money, but nowhere near as much as buying new everytime.
