I was at Trade Sales in Slough today and they had some brand new bug-eyes for £16499. The sales guy admitted that they were non-EU (from Cyprus) and therefore had no manufacturers warranty.

Apart from this, is there any other reason not to buy a car from them?

No real reason as such.My previous import Type R had come via Cyprus, however at that price you can buy a EU one.The one from Cyprus will have no Manafacturers warranty and will also be classed grey rather than parallel by insurance companies so larger premium.Personally, since you can buy EU imports for around that price I'd look around first.

Thumbs up

check out www.alliancecarimports.co.uk

MY03 (facelift version) for about £16k from Belgium.

Inc 3 year warranty, only downside is a 5 month wait (but they're not in the UK until March anyway).

I bought my last MY99 from there and can't praise them enough. Ive just ordered an MY03 WRX......

there's no point importing from cyprus. the cars there come from JDM. it will come cheaper if you import it yourself from japan straight away.

I looked at the ones in Slough at the begining of Nov, when they were 18K
But with the warranty they flog you and the OTR costs it added about £800-900 (can't remember exactly)

Thy'd had the cars ages then - when i asked how much they will come down to by Xmas, the guy got in a huff and wandered off.

I got a euro import (UK spec & WR blue)for 16.5 OTR a week later

You could try and make them an offer or see what they come down to

As far as trade-sales themselves go; no concept of customer care or interest whatsoever when they've got your cash, but what do you expect; quote "We're like a supermarket here mate", but if the car is the right price why care.

My mum bought a 156 last year and it had a knacked battery, still a good buy though!

Edited to say: the ones in Slough are NI spec not UK can't remember the differance though (minor).

Spoke to 3 subaru dlrs today, they are getting desperate to shift 02 my, reckon you could get 1 for 17500 to 18k if you push them hard without a px.

Because it is not a an E.U. import, you may find that Subaru
dealers will refuse to service it. They treat it as a 'JDM' import

That shouldnt be a prob from 2004 as Cyprus will be part of europe and as far as i know they will still get JDM cars.

Its not the fact that Cyprus is a none EU country but also that the cars they do receive are none EU spec (ie JDM) but even if it is a euro spec the car wont be fully EU spec due to lighter glass etc and will be forced to take an SVA test.

LHD should not be a problem, as only 2 specs are made - US & Export (called Euro). If a COC is supplied, then no need for any SVA.
Btw, JDM cars share the same spec of glass & rear light clusters as Export spec - they all carry the 'e' mark, it my only be the dark glazing that are non-conforming (optional on JDM cars).

Wink

The UK 300 was a UK car only, these cars were prepared by prodrive from WR blue Bug eyes, now it could have been imported to cyprus but it will never be an original and also cyprus is not an EU country so you will have only a 12 month subaru warranty (which doesnt count for anything as after that your stuffed).
For the same price you probably paid for your car (and they are quite expensive in cyprus compared to europe) you could have bought a UK car with 3 year warranty and no hassles

UK dealers will not touch a Cyprus car as the country is not part of the EU and untill so, are dictated to by IMHO, so if you bought a car that originates from there, once the dealer checks the chassis number and identifies the car, then, end of story, sorry. the country "may" well be comming online into the EU, but untill it is "fully in" , then you either wait, or buy elswhere if you still want the re assurance of a decent warranty network.

This is why people buy JDM cars as they are normally of a higher spec bigger perfromance for the same or less money. My JDM impreza has alcantara seats and air con as standard but obviously no UK/Euro warranty. Personally, I would import from Japan before buying from other NON-EU countries as you know the spec you are getting (JDM spec). If I was buying a UK spec I would buy from Europe, Holland or Belgium.

Chris if its a JDM WRX MY01 then they were rated at about 245bhp so it will be quicker than your friends 215bhp MY01. Before anyone starts the JDM WRX power was reduced on the JDM MY01. The problem is if it was imported from Japan you know exactly what you have buying from a non-EU you cant be sure. Sounds like you have a JDM WRX to me but I am only guessing.

Havent seen any model codes for MY01 JDM but following from the classic a 4 door JDM WRX could have a model code of GC8H48D (which would be on the VIN plate under bonnet top of suspension turret passenger side) note this is a model code NOT a chassis or engine number (dont post engine or chassis number on the net !!!).
