PPP, Worth it or not?, Please help.
#1
I have an STi7 type UK and am having problems getting away from things that my old import used to eat for breakfast, when there is only meant to be 32BHP in it. Is the PPP good value for money or not?
Do other mods affect the warrentee or not? I can't see how they can say that only Subaru mods don't render it invalid.
What can you get done for the same money as the PPP, if you are happy to loose the warrentee?
Somebody help, please!

The PPP does more than just add power, it also adds value to your car, something that other modifications dont.
Prodrive printed the time differences in gear, some were as low as .1 of a sec, others 2 secs difference.....
Ecutek do an ecu for your car but this will invalidate your warranty, you would have to see how much it costs but you may get better gains out of it, for the fact that you have a car that was worth approx 27k new i would go for a PPP, its a little expensive if anything went wrong after you had your car chipped as virtually everything is engine related (ie if its connected to the engine then your a bit stuffed, which is most of the car).
Drive one is the best way to see though, if you like it with a PPP fitted then go for it, if not.....

Basher,
If you wish to keep your warrenty PPP is for you but it's £2K and for me drives much better vast improvement
A Miltek Xhorst system is good, about £1K
Scoobysport system is sposed to be real good again about £1K
Better still an EcuTeK ECU gives around (with a decat sys Xhorst) about 330 Bhp/335 lbs so looking around £1.9K for 10% greater than PPP IIRC. But Bye Bye warrenty.
Tony
Ps you pays your money best of luck

Very accurate advice from the others. It's warranty vs some measure of savings. I'm extremely pleased with mine
The list price IS £1995 inc VAT & fitting. If you can get less, good luck to you: if the dealer asks for more, go elsewhere. There have been some supply problems: the most recent position I heard was - supply is quick if you'll let your ECU go for mods (min 48 hours off road) or you'll go to Prodrive with the car. Otherwise there's a bit of a queue. That may have changed, so check with your dealer if - having quoted you no more than £1995 - you consequently trust him!!!
Go for it!

My m8's got an RA, yeah it's quick as ****, but its an old nail, STi is far more civilised
Yeah the standard zaust tone is very camp, change the mid section and back box, ask JW or TSL for advice.
I got the PPP coming in January I think, not 100% certain that I'm gonna take it, quite happy with the car as it is.

The PPP sounds quite nice actually the gains are not dramatic but loads more fun My hard wearing OEM tyres only lasted to 6900miles so trying to claim some money back off Prodrive LOL
Tony

WRX + PPP = No comparison to STi7.
WRX + PPP + Full decat = similar to STi7 on power alone.
WRX + PPP + Full decat = No comparison to STi7 + PPP.
PPP is designed by Prodrive and fully approved by Subaru/IM, can't get much safer than that.
Edit - I do 40,000 miles a year in my STi and apart from squealing brakes it's not missed a beat.

as the others have said if warranty is important go for ppp !
BUT i had a wrx with PPP & have junked the lot in favour of total decat & Motec !
In my opinion no comparision ! Far superior package BUT no warranty !
I dont want to get into a row on this I have gone down both routes & in my humble opinion my car is now far superior & can be mapped to handle the bigger turbo injectors & fuel pump which are planned !
BUT ECU changes are only as good as the mapper & having the MD of motec doing it helps
Follow me at the next Surrey or Sussex meet & see what you think

I had my Sti PPP fitted just before xmas. I did the "leave the car @ the garage for a few days, while they send the cpu off to Prodrive" approach.
First impressions were "Hmmm, not that much quicker", BUT, as everyone else has said "look at the speedo" and then you'll see how fast you are actually going. I've put this down to a flatter torque curve, but you do loose that turbo rush at 4000 rpm.
I'm finding the Prodrive backbox quite boomy, but overall, I'm impressed with the PPP. Particually as there is no warrently worries.
Gareth.

I'm very clear: PPP on the STi made a world of difference to mine. It is more accelerative, from much lower revs, and it is more restful to drive, 'cos you have to stir less often. IMHO it 'feels' slower for two reasons.... you've already had the kick at much lower revs; and if you change down at around 3500 - 4500 revs (as well you might) the engine is already 'on song'.
Go on Big Goon, I guarantee you won't be disappointed. And you'll have your warranty.
So far as high mileage is concerned, one of the delays in bringing PPP to the market (according to Dave T-S) was the need to test-age the components: remember S-UK are backing a 3-year warranty, and this is necessary development for any car which has a Manufacturer's warranty. So, for example, getting rides in Mike's car at Prodrive isn'tall altruism. Prodrive needed to have a car thrashed hard for long distances IMHO

have managed to drive a couple of motors now with PPP pack and to be perfectly honest, worth every penny, it makes the car so much easier to drive as all the power does not simply cut in just over 3k as it used to, and now pulls so low down the rev band. I'd get your name on a dealer list quick, so you dont have to wait too long as the list is still around 8 - 10 weeks once ordered, but can easily be fitted and back to you in the same day as only takes around 3 hrs to convert your car.
i have tried on with std exhaust and with tsl system fitted, the tsl system goes rather nicely with ppp ecu, but even on std equipment, still a nice package to have fitted, plus with "FULL" backup from warranty so no problems with anything if it goes pearshaped.

Big Goon,
The WRX would have no warrenty! Now WRX+PPP+HKS Hiper more torque and similar power to the STi!
WRX + PPP + Full decat = similar to STi7 on power alone.

Anyone know if this 'leave car at dealer for a few days while they send ecu away' install is official? I've got a PPP ordered, but looking at late jan, right now I'm working from home and could leave the car with them a few day so it'd really suit.

Makes sense two day turn around on ECU's instead of Two weeks If the PPP takes too long you'll never wear out the OEM tyres LOL
It's worth waiting for IMHO

Well my dealer is pretty useless, I'm fairly certain they ignored I request to be put down for the ppp and only actually put me down for one when I mentioned it when getting a service a month or so later.
Just rung them now and they don't know anything about it and say subaru uk aren't open till thursday, but they'll ring them then and get back to me. I won't be holding my breath.
More annoying than not having it is having the money burning a hole in my pocket and all the january sales

I live in suffolk, find me a subaru dealer in suffolk
My options are:
Osbornes in Colchester. Who I use, but are useless. Despite the fact I've had two cars off them in 18 months (nearly new MY00 Turbo and STi7) they still don't seem to give a flying fsck about sorting out any problems I have and at least one member of service staff who always sounds like he's lying.
Some random dealer near cambridge, been there once before I owned one and they looked crap to be honest.
Next nearest I know of is norwich
I will probably look up the norwich one on thursday and see if they can offer this leave the car there service, although it's quite a trek there, probably worth it to get it sooner and just spend my £2K somewhere else than Osbornes.
