Ok lads, some positive thoughts here. I have always wanted to go back to driving coupes. In the past searching for a decent 22B was just..... but after looking at P1's, they're kinda growing on me in a big way.

Some of you have said in the past that the STI7 is a better car and lots of you have said that the P1 is the ultimate UK Impreza available (bar 22B UK). My local dealer is trying to wrap up a deal on one for me over the next couple of days.

I drive a STi7 UK Prodrive with Milltek. Nothing wrong with old MY02, just think that the P1 is dead sexy. Put a P1 against an STi7 - visualise which one the girls will go for

Cheers

Tony

LOL Tony! Obviously, you were thinking about this on the way back from Abergavenny!!!

IMHO, it boils down to these factors -

(1) Finance - will it cost much to change & and are you prepared to lose (if anything) on your new STi7?
(2) Practicality - you were talking to the wife about your kids. Not much fun getting kids in and out of a Coupe.....

However, does the STi give you the performance you want? Will the P1 fill that 'void'?

Just my 2p

Best of luck in the decision - it's a hard one to make...P1 or Sti7,P1 or Sti7,P1 or Sti7,P1 or Sti7,P1 or Sti7,P1 or Sti7,P1 or Sti7,P1 or Sti7,P1 or Sti7,P1 or Sti7,P1 or Sti7,P1 or Sti7,P1 or Sti7?

Dan,

Not told you about the incident with the pheasant just past Bransford on the way back home. Nice little dent on the near side reflector. Tried to avoid with a quick right - left but with the on coming traffik this was not poss. Only saw something flying towards the grass verge after a loud thud. It's the first time that I have ever hit anything. I feel really bad about it. Visions of a ghost pheasant on the roadside when ever I pass through Bransford!!!!

I have been pondering on the idea for some time. Thing about coupes is that there are no doors for the kids to open when they are sat in the back.

Thumbs down

****!!!!

best get a P1 then - STI will cost too much to repair!!!

Sorry to hear bout that - I hit one on the way to see RobSTi (just before the Newtown Crossroads). Actually, to be honest, I was more concerned about the car - had only had it a week or so!!!
Did feel guilty when I saw it doing cartwheels in my rearview mirror

Not nice though...

Dan

edited to add - playing devils advocate here!! that's what chlidlocks are for

Had both.
STI is a better package in terms of a drivers car and build quality.

The P1 is far more sexy and retains that aggresive look as well as oozing road presence. The only thing that is aggresive on the STI7 is the scoop. I would pick one over an STI7 any day but youve got to look at the age diff, warranty etc. Quite a few P1 probs going around so make sure that warranty is sorted.

Only problem I've had with my P1 was the battery going. And I thrash the **** off it regularly.

I am yet to see a review that rates the sti7 above the P1......

Tony...

Put your order in NOW for a Nissan 350Z.

"The 3.5 litre V6 engine produces 287 horsepower and 274 lb-ft of torque"...Combine that with some go-faster goodies and it'll kick-*** and sound gorgeous

cheaper than changing?

So far, very positive remarks. I too have test driven the P1 albeit very shortly. The grin factor when looking at ones reflection whilst passing a large shopfront window is still there, although somewhat more so in the P1.

Just driven 2.5hrs from Worcestershire to North Yorkshire and only saw a Legacy!!!!!

I do remember reading an article in EVO some months ago stating that the P1 is a better drive than the Mitsu and the Sti7 altogether.

Are there any P1 owners near Stokesley? Be it for that matter, where is the nearest Subaru dealer here?

You want to pull ladies in an Impreza? um, its a 4 door family looking saloon with big bits bolted to it, and even as a 4 door saloon it isnt a great looking one, I dont think a girl would be too impressed with either of those.

Get something thats visually appealing to more than some petrolheads if you want a girl to even look twice, think RX7, think Esprite, an S2000, an Elise, something that at least looks like a nice sports car without needing massive bits bolted onto it to try and do so.

Audi TT if you can handle the image, that pulls em.

I meet your girlfriend and you'll be a single man

lol, ahem, yeah.

There will be a few girls that like the car, but its not going to turn their heads, or when you pull, and take them out in your car, they'll probably be a little aprehensive about having a massive spoiler screwed onto it, and the below par interior, and it wont exactly have them checking out who's driving when it goes past.
It gets lots of appreciation from a lot of playstation gen muppets, and avid impreza/rally fans, but you dont want to be trying to get girls to have a look or enjoy the visuals of the car if its an Impreza, good looking, or even sporty looking is not its forte'

How does having a fast car help you pull? Unless you drive it into the bar? If I'm out chasing ladies I'm not often sitting in the Impreza. When I'm on the p!ss I generally leave the car at home, which doesn't help really. Is your car like KIT or something 'cos that might help you pull.

Exclamation

P1 is quicker than an STI with a PPP.
I think not.
The P1 on standard wheels and tyres is crap.
The tyres are far too narrow for the ammount of power it has.
Plus it has no LSD front diff so when pushed REALLY hard is too easy to make the inside front wheel actually spin!!!.
Standard brakes are also 5hite.
YES YES YES.....its lighter and probably stiffer and all that bo11ox but the STI has far superior grip and traction.
I just wish I had never owned a P1 at all.
Mind you it did have its faults but at least the engine never gave up the ghost!!!
Where is it now I ask??

IMHO

STi7/PPP shades P1 in all but looks and rear wash-wipe. P1 shades STi7 unmodded. Cost of extra mods for brakes and ride/roadhold for P1 probably not too far away from cost of PPP for STi7. Meanwhile, your STi7 is a) newer b) has minimum 2 years warranty remaining and c) has been treated as well or as badly as You have treated it.

I think you've got to want the looks & locks pretty badly to upset that pecking order. You can lock all 4 doors from the keyfob anyway.... can't you?? (No kids now, so haven't bothered to look and it's late, dark and wet now, so I ain't going out to check )

Phil
(Greatly tempted to go along same road until PPP'd. Equally, wouldn't look a gift-horse p1 in the teeeth - no sir!)

I had my STI and P1 together for about 6 months.

I wouldn't swap mine back, unless the deal was ridiculous ??

Dunno how your car drives with the Miltek, but get a PPP.

im still waiting for my ppp for the sti so my decatted p1 felt far quicker, but to be fair to the sti its as quick from 3rd gear up, i upgraded to the 18's, far better than the 17's and the crap pzeros, the alcons seemed crap compared to the brembos for road use, and the sti is better where the p1 used to spin the inside wheel
mark
p1 sounded awsome with full ss system though
