Just wondering if anyone can give me some top tips for the care and long term maintaince of a Turbo. I am aware that after a long or hard run you should let the engine run a whil when you return home... but am not sure how long or the other all important tips. The one thing I am looking at is a Turbo Timer to go with the Clifford Alarm. Is this a good idea?
Thanks in advance....

Pudge.

Never rev over 3k revs until car is well warm.

As you said, let it cool down as the oil will have had time to dissipate from the turbo.

Use the best tyres (toyos or Goodyear F1'S) you can afford.

And get it serviced by the book (oil change even more than that recommended)

Thanks SiPie

What engine oil would you recommend as I will use it at the next service. Also is a turbo timer worth it just in case I forget to let the engine cool down?

Turbo timers are worth it, even if just for the coolness of having your car run on for a while when you walk away from it

Welcome BTW

Opinions vary on the oil and there has been so much discussion on this BBS between fully synthetic/semi or summer running/winter etc that everyone seems to have an opinion of their own

I would suggest you do a search on the oil thingy and make your own mind up

Re the turbo timer. I haven't bothered. There is something too psychologically (sp) scary about walking away from your pride and joy with the engine running (dream weaver must be a braver man than me )

On a more serious note, you'll soon find that you get into the habit of allowing it to idle for a minute (takes that amount of time for me to remove the stereo and fit the disk-lock anyway )

Plenty other peeps will give you good advice in the general technical section about any probs/queries you have.

Cheers
Si
