I currently run a RB5 WRSport which I love dearly but I now need something to cart the dog round in (not a girlfriend). I've been considering a Focus RS, R32, or Alfa 147GTA. The other option is a jap STi7.
What are the pitfalls of running an import? servicing, insurance, repairs, spec, undersealing/speedo conversions, handling on uk roads etc etc.
Any info much appreciated.

My friend has the same problem.

He's getting rid of his Evo 6 TME because of it.

He's looked at some very sweet Mitsi' Galants.

Twin turbo, loads of poke but a practical estate

Cheers

Importing in my opinion is by far the best way to go. Servicing is not a problem anymore! You will find that some Scooby dealers will do it without a problem. Appart from that, many JDM cars are better specified than the uk cars. Good example is the dashboard on classic scoobs. Look at the dash on a P1 and then look at the dash of an STI5! You also get diff lock on STI type r not available on P1. There are many differences. Parts are no longer a problem. As all cars both Euro and JDM are nearly identical parts can be found at your local dealer. Specialists are also importing many hard to find parts for early sti's as well. The only downfall in my experience is the warranty. Have a good look around before you buy though. The second hand market has taken a big dive in the past few months and there are a load of bargains out there some cheaper than imports.

Local garage has no problems at all in servicing-all parts readily available. Insurance a tiny bit more expensive (depends on age). Had a surprise phone call today from a Subaru main dealer offering to service my import ! I bought an import because the car I wanted wasn't available in the UK-NO regrets.
