A freind asked me about buying a K plate silver scoob in his locale.

rear wash wipe.
pink badges.
interior.... red fleck on black.
(all things he has told me about it after a little quizzing)

Is this an early STI then.

Up for £3500
sound like it's in the right ball park ?

At that price it is more likely to be a WRX.

Price was dropped from 4k after not selling for a few months !
make any difference ??

Andy

edit to add : after some more phone text info, it only has a low level rear spoiler !
I assume all STi's came with a "wing" rather than a spoiler.

so prolly a WRX after all then ?

1993 would be an STi 1 which would have had the large 'hoop' style wing as standard.

Best thing to do to confirm STi or not is to check under the bonnet on the suspension turrets for the STi plate.

Exclamation

I maybe wrong but it has to be an import first UK cars started from L reg IIRC (unless its a private plate like K123 WRX for example). Best to check model code on VIN plate as Ian has suggested

Big sinky thats what me and Ian said and its good in theory but the first STIs were modified from a production version WRX by STI so they still carry the same model code in the VIN plate as a WRX. It tells you what MY the car is but it may not tell if it was a standard WRX or an STI tweaked version.

As you said

GC8B48D 240 WRX 4 door
GC8B48D 250 WRX STi 4 door

You cant tell

Cool

Gearing on the STi is shorter than the WRX.
The redline on the STi is higher than the WRX.
There`s a couple of other noticable differences but me heads still 2 full of drink to think
The WRX has a rear wiper, not sure about the STi.

The original STI was jut tweaks almost like a super WRX as can be seen above 240Ps to 250PS isnt that much. Gearing depends on MY my WRX has short gering than a normal STI and same as an STI RA. Redlines also changed over time as did spoliers wheels, interiors. Very difficult to tell as there is no conclusive thing you can pinpoint.

bit difficult to check under the bonnet, behind a closed showroom window

I'll get him to have a proper nose at it when they are open again,
Printing this page off will help him greatly.

Thanks

Hello Fuzz,

Hopefully useful to you. I started a post a while back looking for other owners of original STI - click this thread - http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...=131800&Page=1 It has alot of info that you may find useful.

At 4K this will be most likely be a WRX, I've not heard of a sourced STI for less than £6,800 (with a substantial mileage, and not in the best of condition) right upto £11,995 for an M-reg (in autotrader a few short months ago). Quite varied pricing, but most are in the 7-9K region right now. Alternatively it could be a totally shagged one

In the thread you'll see pictures of the original, and the plaque that the guys speak about. Look also for the cerise/aluminium strut brace, 'handcrafted and handbuilt by STI' badge on the engine, black side badging with 'World Rally Championship' on title, the hoop spoiler is on alot of early STI's, STI logo'd seat's, etc, close ratio gearbox, STI embossed exhaust (unlikely to see them now), the ECU has a pink badged cover...... theres lots of other clues - aluminium bonnet, boot, suspension components etc....you get the drift Most important for those who dont know what to look for is the plaque.

If it is genuine one, then get you mate to join the thread above as I'm in process of collating a register to '100' and '200' owners.

Hope this helps,
Marky-San

Oh, meant to say....like all Subaru/Jap power quotes. The 250BHP can be taken with a pinch of salt. Original cars I have records of are running the 270-280 region with no tuning at all, but using the proper fuel obviously. Mine ran the RR at 277 average over 3 runs. Now its modified for a bit more
