I love my scoob, BUT........

...having seen the new prices Im not getting another new one for a long time.
<flame suit on>
Rather foolishly you may say, I have had 2 new scoobs in the last 18 months. Firstly a UK300 on which I spent loads of money modding, then the STi came out at a similar price which devalued the already overpriced UK300. So what did I do, cut my losses and get an STi.
Now having had the Sti only 7 months, the new blob eye is out at £2500 less instantly devaluing all bug-eye Sti's and WRX's even more.
I am perfectly happy with my car, I just feel like I have been shafted twice by IM and over 18 months have lost over £10k in depreciation. My choice I know, but you dont expect cheaper versions to constantly be released.
My view is all the enthusiasts that stuck with IM and bought the much criticised 'bug-eye' have been left financially stranded, whilst those of you who stuck with the 'classic' will now benefit from the lower pricing of the new car.
All us 'bugeye' owners can do I guess is just forget about it, dont sell up and realise what good cars we have. I have no desire for an MY03 STi and prefer the look of my MY02 anyway.
Hopefully at this rate the MY05 STi will be over 300bhp and only £15,995 so I may consider a new one again
Rant over.
Finally, dont forget ALL scoobs are great cars

Looking on the bright side, if there is one. These cars were only produced for 2 years and their only downfall was fashion. Yes it weighs more but there's more to owning an Impreza than 0-100 times. Give it a while and the volumes of cheap and nasty 'Slit eyes' will increase the individuality of the 01/02 and especially the STi, I can't see prices rising but I do believe they'll stabilise.
Luckily I intend on keeping mine for more than a couple of years so won't count the lost pennies just yet... oops I just did and ouch it hurts.

slit eyes....like it
Can't make my mind up whether i like the restyling though.i had got used to the bug eye and thought it was "distinctive" gave character to the car....but the "press" did not like the styling in the uk so i guess it was doomed.
interestingly its selling well in the usa.

bit OT but just had a glance through the daily telegraph motoring section and at the subaru part, and Bell & Colvil , Surrey have the last brand new STi Type UK prodrive for £27,495, I thought they shifted all the STi's and i also thought they were dropping the price or was that just on the WRX??

know the feeling , my first scoob was a very low mileage my97 which had been updated to look like a my2000, paid £17k for that when there was a waiting list for new ones, part xd that for a p1, got 13k for it 15 months later, luckily got the p1 for 28k, got a set of alcons and 18's for 1k, part xd that 18 months later for a sti pd, intend keeping this one for about 5 or 6 years

I went on gut instinct and people told me I was mad for buying an MY00 with the MY01 coming out and doublely mad for buying a grey import. Sorry but I just couldnt live with the MY01 looks and performance though . Dont forget at the end of 2000 begining of 2001 there was no PPP, no styling mods. So the choice was a 31K P1, 21K MY01 with a hope they would make it go quicker and a wait for the right colour and bring out styling bits or a MY00 RA import with 5 mile on the clock for about the same as a PPP MY01. I picked the RA up a few days later and a Subaru dealer missed out on a mint part-exed MY98 Uk turbo and all the servicing and bits.
The car took so much critism for current owners, potential owners and the motoring press when it came out it was obvious that changes would be made and the design would change within a year or so.
The problem to me seemed that the tried to make a high distinctive rally rep car into general conforming blend into the background everyday car.
The reason I like the classic styling was that no other car on the market looked like it. Sure it was ugly but aggressive and could be picked out from 500 yards.
This is why the EVO did well, another ugly car but has big road presence and performance to match.
I guess we will never go back though, sad really.
Cheers

Your right Chris, shouldn't look back. But, I'm so glad I owned or rather was allowed to drive a MY98 up to my current car. It was one hell of a rep mobile and luckily for me someone else in the company did the 6 month wait, they left a month or so after it was delivered
