little did i know that one of my customers is one of the FOUR drivers who r the annymous STIG

He has been in my shop for the last 4hrs telling me stories of the cars he's driven and he also rides the filming trucks and the stuff Jeremy gets up to in the cars, like the Bentley he lost his rag with and done the burn out.

he said he cant name the other 2 drivers (he let slip the other )

Wot a lucky git!!!!
he did the Zonda amongst others but was gutted he couldnt drive the subaru that the 'men of cloth' used.

If that is the case, having 4 STIG's makes a mockery of the times they did around the track. I thought the whole point of the STIG was to take the driver out of the equation.

no he isnt, nor is the other guy who the producer of top gear.

he said that the whole top gear team r **** scared of saying anything against JC's word.

Yes i was quite taken back that he said there was 4 drivers, this does make an unfair test somewot!!!

espescially as out of all the cars that were 'timed' he only did 5!!!!

Neil,

Having some cars tested on a wet track and some on a dry track is what makes a mockery out of the test results. If the Stig(s) is (are) any good, I'd have thought that they'd be close enough to the car's limits that the variation in lap times between drivers would be small.

Andy

I thought they took the wet times into account and added the times on. Or did they just guess?

Question

Wind speed/Temperature/track temperature/track conditions/fuel level/tyre tread/how the driver was feeling/had he had his breakfast/when the last time he went to the toilet/full moon/tide so many variables

Surely the same driver on the same day/hour etc is the only way for a truly comparable test ?

who really cares (or remembers) what the lap times are? it was good watch and that's all that really counts. At least you scooby boys have an excuse for the focus and golf beating the scoob

The episode i saw JC seemed to just come out with an adhoc addition in seconds for a wet track,
No justifiable calculation at all?..

In my opinion the times did not clarify who made the fastest car, one hot lap was not a fair way to establish this as am sure you would feel you could do better lap?.

And with the above revalation that it was not the same driver well nuff said..

Still fun to watch performance cars getting a good hiding...

mick...

EvoBarry: wot sort of proof do u need?

I was only saying wot i had found out from this customer of mine. He has always been in racing and rallying, his own and other peoples cars and mentioned that he also did driving for tv and films where upon he mentioned one of which was Top gear.

i jokingly said 'oh r u the Stig then'

he laughed and said, '1 of them'

where upon the convo kicked off and he told me there r in fact four guys who test the cars and drive the filming trucks.

he mentioned that the bentley JC drove was different to the 1 he tested for the lap time 'a different colour' and that he advised JC to up front tyre pressures to reduce the understeer, JC knew best and didnt.

anyway, wot is it that u can prove that wot i was told was all crap?

Look on pistonheads - many posts about who stig is and even there people noticed he seemed to metapmorphasize (sp) from being a short **** to a taller chap. Many have concluded the same - that he is one of several.

ImprezaWRX - The wet/dry thing wasn't *completely* arbitrary, as the/a Stig took the same car round wet and dry, and they used the difference in the times as a fiddle factor. Can't remember which car, though, as obviously it'd make a difference - I imagine a Scoob or Evo's times would be a lot closer than a Viper or summat.

RB5 has indeed got it wrong

the stig is one person, a small-framed F3, F3000, le mans and ex F1 driver

the french accent he puts on for a luagh when other people get in eth car - hs is *not* french but british and has been described as "the world's unluckiest racing driver"....

Agree the Stig is Johnny Herbert. Ever seen the way he walks? Johnny's always had an 'odd' walk since smashing his feet to pieces.

I know for a fact that "the Stig" is four people.
I know of a guy at Evo magazine (a friend of a friend) who confirmed this, very "hush, hush". RB5 is correct.
