Just got my car back from tsl with pockets feeling a not too insignificant 850 quid lighter (60k sevice, brakes, mot) and they told me they found a bleedin superchip on the ecu, I did instruct them to remove the chip if indeed that is what it had, and it bloody did.

So now my car is running nearly standard power, bar the k+n and full decat.

What do I need to get the psi back up but also increasing the fuelling so as not to blow a piston, what about a good piggyback chip.

Gutted, but the car now runs mint if a bit slower.....

97uk by the way...

Knocklink, Dawes and HKS fuel cut defender.

This way you will still have a fuel cut (raised), get easy to adjust boost control and be able to check for knock.

If you want it remapped consider a Link or Unichip, or ScoobyECU if the guys crack the 97/98.

Doesn't do enough, only ups boost, much better to have a proper job done so that fuel/air/boost etc all run together, just seen a wrx in tsl with a piston waving at me, not good...
And after forking out 8500 for my car then spending another 850 perfecting her I am not going to risk anything happening just for the sake of a few more bhp, besides 2yrs its evo time.....

SAY WHAT YOU WANT!!!!!!!

i'v ran a super chip for the last 30k, without a hint of a problem.

I cant understant why everyone is against them.
Phone calder cars or falkland performance and ask them about the chip, 99% of the people who comment on them have never tried one.

If they were just doing a service why did they remove the carpet, unscrew all the bolts on the cover and take a look inside? I didn't realise this was part of a 60k service?

Talking

With the chip I was running 267 bhp, not bad but I am currently looking at the gems ecu then maybe a vf23h the chip is just not suitable, it is generic and cant take into account any other mods done, if you want to risk it thats fine but knowing I am going for gems I wont. I have also noticed that its not too bad with uk cars but its the wrx/sti that seem to go bang, but as I said I want gems, after all it is MY car.

And I purchased the car about 3 weeks ago off chaz, I took it to tsl to have the 60k for piece of mind also an mot(with full de-cat) and new back brake discs and too strip and clean all callipers as they were sticking, I also told them to check the entire car out to make sure it was running ok and give me a list of components etc. Which is how they found the superchip and took out under my instruction because as I said erlier I want a decent management system, it cant be good for the engine to whack up the boost and not even change the fuelling not to mention all the other variables. But thats just my opinion.

Anybody want a superchip???

P.S the car now picks up faster at bottom end, its only peak that has suffered. Also a lot smoother....

Just wondered why they were looking down there in the first place.

okay dokay Nezz.

Nick. Why did this "Chaz" person not fill you in about the chip? I would assume he must have known about it.

We all told Chaz not to get a Superchip

The reason I recommend the HKS FCD is that it will have a new fuel cut, the knocklink will tell you if it is knocking. A Superchip setup properly is as smooth as stock, I did loads of experiments with home made FCDs.

The fuelling will be very rich - that is no bad thing.

You don't need to be QUITE so worried about fuelling and timing suiting your boost if you check out what it is running. Across a very wide area the ECU will run quite sensible fuelling and timing, but you will lose out on some power and torque compared with a well remapped ECU.

Have a look at a TD05 front entry instead of a VF23 IMHO.

Yes as to the td05, how much new?

scoobymania bloke siad that a vf23 hybrid would do a much better job, around 1000 fitted...

John think he said VF23 "hybrid" which would be better than a std TD05 ... a hybrid TD05 based turbo is another thing and you would have meant that? I had a std TD05 on my wagon for 55000 miles and it was good but didn't flow the air that the VF hybrids I had on the '5 could.

I asked them to check for the chip, I was told it wasn't running one instead that it had been modified in some way(total beginner here) as to them finding it, as I said I wanted them to check the entire car, including all the mods done so that I had a starting point to carry on from.

No biggie i've just got to convince the missus that 1395 for the gem fully fittd and mapped is a bargain, so I have started my campaign now, I told her that to get to 270bhp again that I neede a motech at 2000 and she went mad so now I can start to ease her mind into ever decreasing prices eventually falling to the gems price which will seem like a bargain.

Done this a few time with other stuff I wanted with good results(how gullable are women)

P.s the car ran ok but seemed very hesitant, it is slightly smoother now but that may be my mind trying to come to terms with such a massive power drop.

Unhappy

Right then, just been to have a good blast in my car only to find the bloody thing wont start, took over 5 mins to get her going, and when she did the stench of petrol was overwhelming, what hasn happened at tsl to cause this, it was perfect before(not blaming the guys just a bit strange).

And to make matters worse it now drives worse4 than ever, stuttering everywhere, and my brakes are still catching, not sure if everybody is looking out of admiration for the car or the screeching from my wheels.

Life is not good......

P.s sorry steve got a few things on my mind hence me no catch on
