Hi,

With all this talk of a 300bhp yankScoob I did a little comparison of prices.

Current WRX in Canada is CAN$35k plus taxes which all in means GBP16k
Current WRX in USA is $25k plus taxes which all in means GBP18k

STi8 (2.5l) speculated to be CAN$45k plus taxes which is GBP21k
STi8 (2.5l) speculated to be $33k plus taxes which is GBP24k

Brits really get ripped-off big time then?

Well, if you import an STi8 from Canada, by the time you pay the VAT and shipping, it's probably about GBP22k, and for that you're getting 300bhp, but left hand drive.

One of the many reasons I left good old Blighty!!

If it GBP21K in Canada before shipping how can it cost GBP22K after VAT and shipping . VAT is 17.5% and must be a few hundred to ship and then a requires an SVA as it non EU. I bet you are looking at 26.5-27K and its still LHD, bigger insurnace bill and only 300bhp and no warranty. Isnt the STi8 UK 25K add a PPP gives you 27K and you also have 300bhp but RHD warranted PPP STI7 for that .

I have an import so I like them but there must be some incentive to buy one. In my case Subaru UK didnt sell the Type RA so I had to go grey and it was the same price as a PPP WRX with 40bhp more and more toys, trick bits.

The only thing I see is the 2.5 engine which no one knows anything about (except subaru obviously) and coulc take months/years before it can be safely tuned IMHO.

The automatic reaction is too say DECAT and UP THE BOOST I would seriously think about that before doing it. Just remember the boost spike problems on decatted STI7s.

If you really want to import then import an STi8 from Japan with the twin scroller and DCCD.

It's GBP21k including taxes, which you get back when you export and the rate of VAT is almost the same.
