Scoobynet email address abuse
#1
Right,
Some person who can remain anonymous for the time being is using my email address to sent me abusive emails.
This person is a Scoobynet member.
The mail in question is here (translated):
I do realize my email address is visible, but it's not meant to continue a discussion in private, especially not when there are threats in it.
What is the most appropriate action to take here ?
I don't take this lightly.

Hey *****,
If you'd have the guts to make yourself known, (which you don't dare), you retard, ... I will find out where you live, and we'll talk to you "in Flemish".
As for the rest: lots of shouting but you don't ever do anything, just as most of our compatriots. You can always try to break my *****, but if I were you I'd make sure I'd have ***** myself.
A good advice: don't mess with me ... and don't ever answer my questions again on Scoobynet. If I need you you will know

Best bet is to mail Shaun/Simon and inform them of the idiot. Then forward a copy of the emails to their ISP. Also get onto your ISP and ask them what they will do about it.
In the meantime, why not register a hotmail mail address and change your profile to point to that one(and hide it). That way you don't have to keep reading it.

I could forward the mails to Simon, but he wouldn't understand, as they are in Dutch
Having a discussion online is one thing, threaths via private mail are another.
Especially when there is talk about "meeting up" etc... I do have a wife & cats after all.
I don't want to hide that I have been on his case a bit, but that IMHO is no justification for the abuse.

Another thought.
Add yourself to your blocked senders list.
Seriously, the best people to deal with this are yours and his ISP. Stopping the guy posting on SN won't stop them from mailing you.
The only other way of dealing with it, is to change your email address but why should you.

Thanks for the suggestions. My email address is already a "decoy", his ISP is actually the same as mine
I don't want to hide the address as many serious (technical) discussions are followed up by email, and I really don't mind those, and am happy to reply to them.
I just think there is a very fine line between even insulting someone (no harm done, sticks & stones & all that) and threatening with "visits" etc...
I have a mail ready for the ISP, but I don't want to make this escalate more than it already did. I really don't need some braindead punk visiting my house, damaging my car etc...
I will also continue to call a spade a spade on here, no matter how many more emails I get. I hope the person reads this & gives up his silly actions.
I will also keep a copy of these mails, and the moment *anything* is happening around my house, these and his home address (which I have by now) will go to the police. Fair warning ?

Just put up a picture of yourself and it'll stop. If memory serves AJ said you are about 6'6" and built like a brick ****-house. On that basis, whilst you and I haven't always seen eye to eye , I certainly wouldn't be dumb enough to email you such drivel given my ickle 6 foot frame

I think it's worth mentioning that there's a fine line between banter on the bbs and personal threats by email.
The first will be looked upon as having a laugh, the latter will usually result in legal action.

Simon

Dark alley...I stopped having casual sex like that Richard
I think webbie summed it up quite well.
Just for clarity: the abused addy in question was not a "scoobynet" address, but my regular email address in my profile, and the mails were sent to me, not to someone else in my name.
I always see legal action as a last resort, there's enough litigation in this world already. As long as it stops now, I'm OK with it.
