Web2U TV Internet System
#1
Whilst in Argos today, I came across this sysyem with which you can access any web-site/email via your tv.
As I don't yet have a PC at home, and if I did I would only use it for these things, it seems an ideal solution.
Does anybody have any knowledge or experience of the system?
It's only £99, so I'm not expecting an all-singing all-dancing pc replacement.
It has a 56k modem, uses BT Click as it's ISP and has a 32bit host chip, and a 27 MIPS sound/image chip. It has 4md dRAM and 1MB flash ROM. Are these OK?
Thanks in advance for your opinions.
Stef.

Stef,
I played around with Web TV systems a few years ago and the only real problem with them then was the fact that a TV can not show the same definition as a PC screen. Thus some of the graphics you woul expect to see like the Scoobynet logo go a bit strange....
Things may have moved on from there now... but i suspect that the screen definition will be the limiting factor.... not sure how it will cope with frames and java though !!
Just for your info... HP are knocking out some cheap (sub 400 quid) PCs these days that are a good spec and will let you do the same and much much more...
Hope thats of some help
Jason

Stef,
Maybe you could you get one and if it's no good, return it on their standard 16 day money-back exchange ?
You could give us the low-down on it !
Thanks
Gavin
(Thinking about buying one for my parents next month... if you can wait)

Well, I bought it last night to see how good it is and I'm on it now.
I only want to visit this site and my e-mail so it won't have to do much work.
Anyway, my main gripe is loading time. Having been used to the ultra-quick pc's at college, this is a bit of a culture shock. They reckon that Java and Shockwave will be available for download on the 8th and 15th March, which apparently will speed things up considerably.
My 16 days run out before the Shockwave though!
Other than that, it's quite good.
It has no trouble with the icons or Scoobynet logo, it just can't show many other graphics yet.
It's nice to lie in bed and surf though!
I have to keep inputting my name and password each time I reply, and I can't access my hotmail yet due to the lack of Java!
I'll go and do some surfing and see how it copes with other sites.
