Used P1 or new 2003 WRX - which would you buy?
#1
Now I know you may think this a totally daft question but I am faced with the choice of either a 2000 X plate P1 approx 9k miles or brand new 2003 WRX Turbo, both at similar money ie £20k. on PCP finance from the same local dealer.
My heart shouts P1 P1 P1 ...but common sense seems to be saying WRX.
So taking all things into account ie thrill factor verses economics of whateach might be worth in say 3 years time what would you do?
Help me wrestle with this decision

had to make a similiar choice on an RB5 or a MY01 WRx with a few nice mods, had the same debate, heart said RB5 & the head went for the MY01, if you use it very rarely i would go for the P1 as it hat bit special as was the RB5 but the New Age was that bit more usable daily basis wise. have you not considered an STi7 instead?

I'm sure you know this already, but:
- the P1 will be quicker, and should hold its value better, but will cost more to maintain as bits start to wear out and need replacing. It's a pretty hardcore machine - very firm ride, quickshift gearbox, revvy engine. This may or may not suit you.
- the '03 WRX will be quieter and more refined, and if any bits drop off then the warranty should cover them. You should only have to pay for servicing and a set of brake pads and tyres or two. It should squeak and rattle less too. Insurance will probably be cheaper. Consider, though, whether you'd end up spending money on mods trying to make it as fast as a P1.
Bear in mind also that, if you prefer the WRX, you'll be able to get it cheaper by importing; if you're prepared to do that, then the P1 starts to look more expensive.
My advice? Drive both and see which you prefer. If you like the WRX, you may as well try a used one of those too - you might even get an early STI VII for the price of a P1, which might offer you the best of both worlds

Mikey Searching high and low for a P1 because like his MY00....it's what he's always wanted. Only live once etc,etc

P1 without doubt, wrx is a decent car but a P1 is special, even people who don't know that much about cars can appreciate that. I bought a 330ci which is a cracking car but I am still wrestling with swapping it for a P1.

Thanks guys for all your comments. Incidently I am talking of the new WRX 2003 with face lift. I would also consider a STi8 but can only really afford £20k.
Having had a Scoob turbo nicked in an armed carjack last year I am also concerned about security and the P1 is of course a high profile car which would be more of a potential target than say a WRX.

Well the P1 wins hands done going off the comments ;D ...thanks guys for your comments
Looks like the new facelifted WRX isnt that popular.
I was talking to the chief technician tonight at the dealers and he commented that the P1 is indeed a fantastic car but he said they are extremely hard in the suspension department .. which is an important consideration with the roads around the Northwest. Would you agree ? Maybe he has experienced one that has been modded. Anyway, I obviously need to test drive it when it comes in.

Hi folks,
I too was in this dilemma a little while back after i had written my RB5 WRSport off in an accident just before xmas. In the end the whole image thing and always wanting a P1 made me go go for it.
Have a deposit at the dealers, am suppose to pick it up this friday. I am like a little boy who is waiting for xmas morning!
The RB5 was a damn fine machine, but the P1 has everything!!
Just my humble opinion!
