Unhappy

At some point today I've suddenly developed a kncoking noise, normally after a gear change... as I come off the clutch. Sounds like knocking exhaust, but I've had a good shake of the exhaust, and it seems really firm, also this doesn't appear to be bump/speed related at all, it's at all speeds after a gear change.

The car is an MY02 only 2000 miles old, so pretty worrying and I've only driven it 5 miles back home since it suddenly started, but it happened all the way home.

Any ideas ? before I take it into Subaru on Monday ?

I've had a check of the spare wheels etc... but again, it doesnt' appear to be speed or bump related...

DBT - no way piston slap, must be something funny in clutch/gearbox

PPP that sounds exactly like piston slap. If it's not bad, there should be no need to do anything (sound is actually from piston shimmying up cylinder, more so when cold cos it expands with heat).

Make sure you let it warm up before using revs, and it should be fine (Not worth having fixed anyhow).

Cool

Obviously not related to this noise, but I have a knocking on my Terzo, can only hear it from cold. Its been traced to an idle pulley that the cam belt runs on (1 of 3). Still waiting for the spares. Worth a mention I thought.
Happy motoring

Cheers for your msgs's... It happened yesterday morning again when I had to go into work, but driving home after, and into work today, I've heard nothing at all... I'll keep a close eye on it for the next few days... The car was warm when it happened on saturday, and cold when it was happening sunday morning

The usual knocking noises can be:

Boost Solenoid
Various heat sheilds
or, my particular favourite: the jack in the boot on the passenger side
