Det on a STi 8 ??
#1
Does the STi 8 suffer from det like a STi 7 does ?
I have read somewhere that it has a different map in it but is this true ?
People seem to be having a PPP put on them already which suggests that the PPP is the same for a STi 7 or 8 ??
Can anyone comfirm if they are the same PPP and if any det has been detected on any *'s yet??

If I recall the STI 7 Type UK will det if run on 95 RON fuel. The STI8 will det if used with 95 RON too I suspect. I doubt Subaru would sell a UK specific model if it detted on 97RON fuel. The JDM versions will of course be much more sensitive to octane levels and may well det on 97 RON fuel, although I think the mapping on those is more adaptable than earler STI versions.

Got any more info Sideways???
I've only ever run my 7 on Optimax so I wouldn't know (and the fact that I wouldn't know anyway as I have yet to install my Knocklink).
Having said that, I have run my car on DeltaDash a few times and not seen any det but never at times when it is likely (e.g. in the summer or after sitting idle for a while).....

Detonation
Premature combustion of the air/fuel mixture before the spark. Causes very damaging shock waves in the engine and can melt pistons, etc. Caused by many factors including too much ignition timing advance, low octane fuel, lean mixture and too much boost (plus many others).

Quick question, who pays the repair bill if the car knocks itself to pieces? If it's a uk car then I assume subaru sort it for free. I was under the impression that the impreza ECU was pretty sorted when it comes to RON adaptation, obviously not.

Powersation told me they saw a brand new 7 suffering det and it was completly standard. Mine had some on the rolling road with a decat centre and backbox. I asked them if that was the problem and they said no most of them do it
Just wondering if the non PPP'd sti8 as the same ??

"most of them do it" could do with some context. On the road, using decent fuel, in standard form, probably very few do it! Using crap fuel on the road, probably some do it and on PS' rollers, perhaps they all do it, but without knowing the circumstances, I don't think you can generalise.
Mine has never audibly detted, or when being monitored, including on PE's rollers. I don't know if that really means anything at all though....
