URGENT: Alloy or alloys!!! Needed!
#1
Mods I'd appreciate some general exposure for a while given the urgent need and that my car is required daily and cannot be off the road for long.
Here goes:
Tonight on the very last corner before my house the car decided to slip her tail and follow the camber of the road into the kerb The rear passenger alloy took the first hit and is wrecked (un-driveable). The car spun and nailed the passenger front one too although it seems to be just a bad kerbing (might be refurbishable). All wheels seem to be pointing in the right direction but can't get under the car yet. The possiblities and outcomes are as follows:
a) There is suspension damage and its an insurance job and this post is pointless
Assuming no suspension damage:
b) I replace the one standard MY99 16" alloy (rear) and get a new tyre for it (sidewall damage) (the other rear tyres wear should be within tollerance)
c) I replace the two damaged standard MY99 16" alloys
d) I repalce the whole lot with other 16" alloys MY99 or MY00
e) I replace the whole lot with bigger and better alloys Quite like the prodrive numbers and also bugeyed 17s
I could be tempted to go for option e). I'd rather now waste £X amount of money to get back to where I was if £Z amount would give me something to show for my cash.
Who can help with any of these options. Got alloys you want to sell? Anyone got a spare MY99 alloy kicking around?
If I do upgrade I'll have 3 nearly new and good condition toyos, would there be a market for these? Would there be a market for the 2/3 remaining alloys?
Thoughts and help appreciated.

Haha, is there something about the wear characteristics of Potenzas I don't know about?
Your incident reminds me of a time years ago i spun my 106 GTi 180 degrees and the back wheel hit a 4" kerb sideways. The alloy was badly kerbed but the tyre/suspension was fine - I couldn't believe it!

I'd advise you check the camber on the rear wheel. I believe (but have no intention of doing exhaustive testing to prove this!) that bending the hub slightly hence giving slight positive camber is the most likely damage on a side-on kerbing at the rear; if that's OK, there's a decent chance you've "got away with" a bent wheel or two. That's until someone who knows better than me (which is a lot of people) comes along and tells you different, anyway!
Commiserations anyway, hope it is all OK.

I know a person who did a similar trick, a couple of months later the wheel bearing developed that lovely droning sound. if you go the Insurance route try & get the bearing done as they arent the cheapest thing to do.
Re wheels If you want to get the car back on the road quickly try your local scrappy then take whatever 4 wheels you come up with down to your local body shop, preferably minus tyres for a quick spray & in the oven, this can usually be negotiated for cash.

Too spokey for me mate, sorry.
Car is booked in on Friday to get looked at! I now have the horror wait I'm encouraged so far by the solutions to the wrecked alloys but this all hinges on the damage being superficial! Fingers crossed.

No, I just hoped/expected she might hold her line and avoid the kerb. I was wrong. My very humblest appologies for being human and making an error! Clearly everyone else would have known that it wasn't going to work and would have done something different

Bad luck Saxo
If you need tyres up here try: Iain (Fleet Mobile Tyres) on 079 73 538 469
He's a good guy and local, gets the tyres dirt cheap and comes to your door to fit them for free.
Or i remember Maxy has MY00 16"s in his garage, i know he's selling his car but maybe you could email him?
Good luck, Kos.

Kenny - my old Impreza had 4 standard MY00 (the six spokers) which I gave to Theo. Dunno if he still has them or the new owner...just a thought.
Personally, I'd whack a nice set of 17" or 18"s on it

Was that the sound of a dummy I heard hitting the floor
If you are changing wheels, I'd stick to 17's. Best compromise between handling and looks IMHO. 18's and 19's are reserved for Rice Boys and people who spend all day polishing their car
