Sons first Rally expirience (Wyedean) Help please
#1
OK my fountain of knowledge......
Just been reading Motor sport news and there is a rally on Saturday... 'Wyedean Forest Rally'
I don't want to put him off too much so I am probably going to take him to SS9 Nr Christchurch (don't kick off until 13:20 so not too earlier start )
But I see that SS2,3 & 9 are fairly close to each other.
So what I need from you folk is what is the distance like between stages, and where is it best to park.
Cheers Ian

Have a look at www.wyedeanrally.co.uk if you haven't already. Details of all the car parks can be found under the spectator info section.
I'm going this year either to SS9 or SS10, haven't decided which yet as I don't like early starts either.
SS2,3 and 9 are close together, in fact SS3 and SS9 (Sallowvallets and Serridge) are almost opposite each other from carpark I. Carpark I is the recommended one for SS9. Speech House (SS2) is a bit further away, I guess about a mile walk from this carpark. I may be easier to drive between them if you wanted to watch SS2.
I usually went to the afternoon run of the Speech House stage but they have changed it this year by adding Serridge (SS9) and getting rid of the second run through Speech House. As this is a new stage I'm not exactly sure of the route.
Have fun
Graz.

Would recommend if it's your first time you only go to one stage and find some good vantage points.
2 stages is the most I've managed on the Wyedean as there is usually quite a walk from the car parks to the best spectator points.
Watch out for the speed traps and enjoy

SpeechHouse is an awesome stage - some big straights to hear Andy Burtons Pug 306 Cosworth at full chat
If you dont mind Mickey Mouse stuff then have a wander round Rally HQ at Chepstow racecourse.. IIRC they'll be running a mile and a half stage with good vantage points...if they put the chicane in round the back of the mound near to the flyingfinish, have a watch from there.. it's traditionally quite tight I know cos i used to set that stage up!!

Go To the service area at least once, you will be bale to get a real good look at the cars/teams there. Always worth a visit, especially for young kids.
I'll be down there, we arent running the cossie though. Cheer on Ian Joel and Graham Wood, this is Ian's first BTRDA event since his massive accident in 2001 so offer them some support.

We're (that's Cheltenham Motor Club) running the start of SS2 Speechhouse. The cars get a long run out time from Chepstow so always spend 10 mins or so queueing near the start, as this is the first stage I can guarantee there will also be a delay. So you can get a good view of the cars there too. Plus you can take the **** out of the start crew, always entertaining.....

Speech House is indeed a great stage, and that 306 is an awesome beasty. It can be quick a trek through to the best vantage points, so one good stage might be enough, and then a visit to the service area or finish (Chepstow race course?)

Ian - the event has a capacity 180 car entry (well done Forest of dean MC) and each car is given a minute interval.. assuming no hold up on road section or halts within stage 180 mins = 3 hours and you'll have seen the field. Later in the day gaps will appear (take extra caution if walking along stage because they will appear at funny intervals and the 1400cc and group N cars are very quiet)
service area will be at Cheptow Racecourse.. parking usually is opposite the the main entrance by the granstand and costs a fiver (charity)
Enjoy it - listen to the marshalls instructions - and have a safe event

Thanx for all your help folks, hopefully the bug will bite (well he can already beat me on WRC on the PS2).
I think we will try and catch SS2 so a nice early start then move over to SS9 after some grub.
Hope the weather isn't too bad, a nice bright frosty morning would be great
If anyone sees a DBM MY99 looking lost, wave cos it'll probably be me

The old man and I will be going down for SS2 and SS9. Might try and get to service too.
It's a cracking entry, 45 cars in the F1400's alone!
Where about in Staffs are you from Ian?
