Greetings,
Can't believe I'm considering actually getting one after having my sights set on an EVO 7. I caught site of the new model the other day and since then I've been converted, great looking car, much easier on the eye. Except for one thing - that bonnet scoop. I know it's there because of the intercooler location but i'm not a fan. Is there an after market replacement or similiar which isn't so in your face? I' be interested to hear...
Oh yes, one more thing. Being a newbie, what is the new model (not bug-eyed) called? STI8? Please let me know.
See ya all around.

Hi, welcome to Scoobynet
Expect a toned down scoop anyday from either subaru or another company. You can have a front mounted intercooler which means you can get rid of the scoop altogether, although that will also get rid of any warranty you might have.
Yes the new model is called an STI 8.
Or to give it's full name
Subaru Impreza WRX STI Version 8 type UK.
Which is a big improvement length wise from the old models name of
Subaru Impreza WRX STI Version 7 type UK, prodrive style.

I cant believe you either!! Why are you going for an STI8 when the EVO7 has more power, better handling, much stronger engine, better residuals etc etc![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Spanpody,
Interesting response. I'm not entirely sure of my decision but after owning an FTO (a very good looking motor), I've decided that I want 4 wheel drive, forced induction and - 4 doors. That leaves two choices, the EVO and the Impreza. Having never owned a brand new car, I've decided to go for the latest models and I've chosen the Scooby over the Evo because in my opinion:
1. Being an ex-FTO owner, I like syling. The EVO 6 has it but I can't say the same about the new one. Something not quite right there... The new Scooby has it, oh boy does it have it.
2. I understand (I may be wrong) that the Evo may have marginally better performance blah, blah, but is not as easy to live with day to day as the Scooby. I more interested in a decent ride and power when I need it. Hence the Scooby.
Your thoughts please....

To be honest Evo owners would say their car is as easy to live with as the STI, and Subaru owners say the opposite. The new Evo 8 will be faster than a standard STI, and it has a larger fuel tank. But it is more expensive, and IMHO uglier and will be more expensive to service.
The best bet is to try both and see which you like the best

Thanks for the no-nonsense answer Neil. What I'd also like to hear are the opinions of those who have driven both. But above all, I'm a man of style and in my opinion the Scooby 8 looks the nuts and the designers of the Evo 7 were on the raz the night before and got it slightly wrong.
So, what I'm asking on this boring Friday afternoon is what do the Scooby clan think (honestly) - EVO7 or Scooby 8?
Lets see those answers.....

Neil, I agree with you ![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
whenry, your best bet is to give both of them a try and make up your own opinion on which one best suits you. No doubt both of them will blow your mind compared to the FTO.
Happy hunting,
Span (ex scooby owner, now with an EVO)

Hi whenry
Another one converted![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Sold my FTO back in October (to Scorch, who you may know if you're a frequenter of FTO list on Smartgroups), now driving a Citroen Volcane TD whilst waiting (not very patiently) for my WR Blue STi8 to arrive in March.
Had the FTO (imp red, GPX, manual) for about 3 yrs and wanted something a bit more brutal.
Also thought of the Evo VII (and VIII) but 4500 mile services (with some quite silly costs involved), v low mpg (and a small tank), combined with the better looks (IMHO) of the STi8 over the VIII, and countless people (on here admitedly) saying that the Evo is a great car for point-to-point rally stylee action, but the STi is an easier car to live with day-to-day.
Go for it!
Roll on March - Can't wait........... but this month is flying by so far...
