RB5 to P1?
#1
![Question](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I am considering replacing my RB5 WR with a P1 and am interested in people's opinions, particularly those who have owned both.
Does the P1 drive very differently? I realize it is a bit quicker, but presumably not drastically? I am more interested in the handling and general "feel" of the car.
Presumably running costs are pretty much the same?
Is it advisable to use octane booster? I never do with the RB5 and as the P1 is a UK car it is presumably unnecessary.
Less importantly, does the P1 have folding rear seats?
I realize I could answer most of these things by going to look at one but I dont want to waste a seller's time if I end up deciding it is not for me.
Oh, finally, I guess I could easily and cheaply exceed any performance advantages by modding the RB5 but I dont really want to go this route.
Any comments and opinions gratefully received.

I haven't driven the RB5 but I can answer some of your questions ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
1). I don't use octane booster, just fill up with SUL.
2). Running costs are the same as an Impreza Turbo unless you put your foot down![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
3). Insurance for me was just over 1k. 27, 5yrs NCB
4). Folding rear seats - No
5). Worth it? I'd say so

Admitedly I went from a 98 UK turbo slower than a PPP MY99 (RB5 WR) to an MY00 RA (bit quicker than a P1 due to gearing and weight) and I noticed a big difference. I considered a P1 but the price tag and 2 doors put me off. If you buy a P1 they you should run good fuel. I run Optimax and OB in my RA but its a JDM car.

Hi mate, i am the fortunate position to have ownwed both!
The RB5 WRSport was my first scoob and i loved it, however i wrote it off after nearly a years ownership back in November 2002.
I was lucky enough to get all my money back and therefore decided to go for a P1 as it is a car i have wanted to own for a while now. I got 19k back for the RB5 and the P1 cost me 23k. I picked it up from the dealers exactly 2 weeks ago and i still havnt got rid of my grin! Glad i decided to go for it.
It is a quicker car full stop.
0-60 feels quicker
more oomph through the gears
better top end
improved handling
is slightly lower than the RB5 ( Prodrive did this apparently )
more presence on the road
rear seats dont fold down
I am glad i have now got one but i was " lucky " that i wrote my RB5 ooff and got my full dosh back. If i had sold the RB5 and got £15k for it then the idea of spending an extra £8k wouldnt have been so appealing. This may start something, but i dont know if it is better by £8k.
Havnt really been in to the modding seen but i am sure you could spend half that amount and get a more capable car
Try and get out in one, make your own mind up.
Go to a dealers, i am sure they will let you take one out for a play if they see you turn up in an RB5.
Hope that helps
Mikey
