Just received this email. Think I'll request a refund.

Cheers,

Ian.

COMPETITION 101 : SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STI

It is with deep regret that we have to announce the cancellation of competition number 101 to win a Subaru Impreza WRX STI.

Despite our best efforts to promote this competition, the slow rate at which tickets are being purchased is unacceptable.

We can offer the following two options :

1. To transfer your tickets to our other competitions at a favourable exchange rate (see table shown below)

or

2. A full refund of your ticket(s) entry fee.

Competition No. of tickets in exchange for each existing ticket you hold
112 : Dell computer equipment 6
114 : Trip to Amsterdam 6
115 : Phillip's DVDR recorder 3
116 : Ferrari 355 track day 6
128 : Fireblade bike school experience. 6
127 : Subaru / Evo track day 6
129 : Range of supercars track day 6

NOTE : All our competitions now have a guaranteed closing date. The competitions shown above will close on 28th February, 2003.

Please visit our website for full details.

Unhappy

Not surprising really. They never sold enough tickets to pay off the car, and they did leave it open long enough for those who wanted to take part could.

Also the car on offer was an old model.

Surely risk is part of a comp like this. Theyd be quick enough to keep it going if there were enough tickets sold.

You cant just cancel something because you havent made enough money out of it.

If the competition isn't selling tickets, what can you do to encourage more sales though?

They've spent a fair amount advertising the prize (banner ads and evo ads are what I've seen, possibly more). This will NOT have been an easy decision, especially knowing what it'll cost to refund the money on a credit card.

Shame, but if they'd have let it run longer they'd have been open to accusations of sitting on people's money so in my eyes they've done the right thing.
