Have spent an hour or so reading various threads in here about various tales of woe some guys have experienced with the STi7 engines..ranging from 'inadequate' fuel pumps to melted pistons caused for a variety of reasons.
My question is...how does the Sti8 engine differ..
Thanks

Usual mapping update to cure the poor STI7 one. S'all I think, unless you're going for a full JDM DCCD twin scroll GL car, megga..

The changes from a UK STI7 to a UK STI8 are almost completely cosmetic, only if you go for the JDM import are there significant changes.

IMHO if I were to change my UK STI7PPP at the moment (and I'm not) it would be for a JDM STI8 with a few sensible mods.

I could then forget about Subaru's extremely restrictive/exclusive and inflexible warranty policy.

The savings on price and PPP would pretty much pay for a rebuild should the worst happen. there are also more flexible warranty solutions available out there. (some bad ones too though!).

If you get the STi8 PPP it comes with an uprated fuel pump...

...or for piece of mind get a pump and fit it yourself. There are a few sources but I think Lateral Performance do the cheapest. You could also try Demon Tweeks.

I recently drove an STi8 with a few extra horses - fabulous car

They are some minor changes... they improved inlet & exhaust valves design and pistons get molybdenum coating from now.

Unfortunately, fuel pump is still the same...

I've also been told that the fuel pump is replaced.
