I believe I now have the dubious honour of being the first person to be nicked in an STi8
Coming back from Donington today, I was passed (just finishing running it in) by the usual loonies, and rustbuckets doing 90-100mph. So who gets stopped? Why? Me, because my number plate has an STi logo on the left, and the letters are a smidgen too small.
Jesus, how bored do you have to be before you nick someone for that? I've run almost identical plates on my last two Imprezas without any problems, until now.
To make it worse, they decided that a fixed penalty of £30 was appropriate, when a producer would have been more than enough.
The final straw was those t0ssers at DVLA, who take 5-6 weeks to update their on-line system, so my plate is still registered as being on my Wife's Yaris. As a result, I'm left to stand on the hard shoulder for 15 minutes while the do a check on my VIN number.
I've always taught my children to respect the law, and the police, but over the last few years I'm afraid I've lost any respect I had for them. I appreciate that they do a difficult and essential job, and I'm sure the plate did not pricely conform with current standards, but their obsession with taking the easy option is beyond a joke.

Bad news but it reminds me when I had my first Legacy Turbo when word was getting round about how good they were.
- Doing 80-85 with the flow of traffic on the M6 (fairly busy)
- Cars ahead spot plod on inside lane and slow to 70.0001 mph
- We all go past. Plod pulls about behind me, I move to middle lane
still at legal speed.
- Plod sits behind me (too close) for 2 mins. I wash my windscreen
so he pulls me over.
- " Do you know that one digit on your number plate is an inch too
far to the left, sir ?"
- Proceeds to get tape measure out - "actually its 1.5 cms out sir,
make sure you have it changed"
And that was before all the recent hard stuff about number plate laws -
So: - Busy motorway, not 'speeding', standing behind the car on the hard shoulder with a tape measure. I should have pointed out that the 44 tonners were about the same distance away from my car as they rumbled past ...

Why. Oh Why.
There are some good coppers out there cause I am v good mates with some of them.
But some of them are just plain thick. Cause they greatly impoved road saftey by pulling you, didn't they..not!
It is just pure luck I suppose, who pulls you.

I wonder how many Old grannies or children have been, killed, Beaten up, Mugged, Robbed or runover by a number plate
I caught the bloke who kicked my door in on my old MY99 (£1k damage) the next day he threaten me whilst on the phone to Police they arrested him guess what happen. Absoulutely nothing didn't even take him to court yet If I twatted him it would have been "Road Rage" and me in Nick

Just be glad the new police powers aren't operational yet, or else they could have decided your number plate was causing 'distress, alarm or annoyance' and driven off in your car, leaving you to walk to the pound and pay £120 to get it released.

They did rub it in somewhat when they started asking me about the car, WHILST WRITTING THE BLOODY TICKET Although 1 of them obviously wasn't overly endowed with technical knowledge, as his only comment was 'it's a nice blue'
I understand that Rum also had the dubious homour of a police escort for some of his journey home.
Josh
PS To those of you who think I deserved it, you are probably right. Good job they didn't find the family of refugees I had hidden in the scoop!

Got pulled over on the M606 years ago on a mates GSXR - the copper was adamant the plate was the wrong size till he got his tape measure out!
I was also pulled in Settle a few years back on my CBR. The plate was supposedly legal but the letters were 2" instead of 2.5" - £20 fine.
Better than being pulled for speeding I suppose....
Cheers,
Ian.

hehe - all those rules and regulations about font style, size and spacing. Did you check Mr Plod had the appropriate BS number on his plate, and measure the letters/numbers to ensure they weren't cheating? All these stupid rules work both ways....

Was yours the plain blue one or the stickered up version?I saw 2 parked outside the cafeteria.I've only seen pictures if the 8 from the front and didn't realise the scoop had such an aggressive profile-like a supercharger intake on a s Spitfire.

To$$$ers why can't they go and do somthing more creative than pick on the motorist.
Oh **** me I forgot it cost to much to catch a burgler but the motorist is easy prey and it cost less and takes up far to much time of the tea breaks catching the real Scum

Fair comment, although my gripe is that they've simply lost the plot, not to mention a lot of public respect over the last few years.
If they wish to uphold the law by stopping me, then they are correct in doing so. If they were that concerned surely they should ensure that I replace the plates, regardless of whether they fine me or not. To that end, the most obvious thing to do would have been to for me to be forced to produce my documents, together with replacement plates. All they have done is to fine me, with no interest in whether I do anything about it. Since I bought the plates myself, I even had the plates made by the dealer in the boot, but they simply didn't give a t0ss.
A couple of dubious looking sh1theaps went past me way in excess of the limit, not only whilst they were following me (5 miles or so), but also just after. They would clearly have seen these cars and,IMHO, these people were far more of a menace than my plates, yet the officers chose to ignore them in favour of stopping me.
I'm not whinging, I'm just very angry as a result of my experience of todays inapropriate policing methods. They found the time and inclination to stop someone like me, yet they don't have the time, manpower or inclination to attend burglaries etc. It's all about figures.
I hope Rum doesn't mind me mentioning it, but he had a similar experience on his way back from Donington, despite some max power dweeb forcing his way past Rum at 90+, in full view of a patrol car, it was Rum that was shadowed by the police for several miles.
Anything else would obviously have been too much trouble.

They weren't BS stamped, and the dealer pointed that out to me, and I've only ever had one set of BS stamped plates in the last 5 years, and that was for about 4 weeks.
I'm not trying to suggest that they were 100% legal, although I have to admit that I was not aware that it was illegal to have any sort of logo on a plate other than the GB or EU logo.
My gripe is the increaing trend towards taking the easy targets, presumably to keep their figures up. Several police cars have been behind me in the last two weeks, and not had a problem, yet today I was selected out of a motorway full of other cars, many of whom were breaking the law.
We can agree to differ if you wish, but I'm afraid I consider their attitude to be a perfect example of the type of totally unconstructive, policing we have these days, which seems to be based solely on statistics and revenue.

Talk about getting priorities all wrong, number plate specs must be about the least important thing you can be stopped for,why do it on a motorway, not the best place to be out with no real good reason as recent tragic events testify to.
However, recently I was followed home by the plod on several occasions, getting fed up with it I just stopped in a lay by to force the issue, sure enough they pulled in behind me, here we go I thought...however it turned out that had been a spate of high performance car thefts in the area and they were just checking to see where the car lived...they advised me to be careful about leaving my keys on view at home complemented me on the car suggested they could use some of these to catch low lifes etc and politely waved me on their way... so not all bad then, just a few miss guided muppets in uniform out there spoil it for the rest.
