I still come here because it’s a good place to be, but it’s been four weeks since I sold the Legacy. Maybe I’ll be back one day but for the moment my pleasure will have to be by proxy.

High Insurance (UK300 = £800, A4 3.0 Quattro = £374)
Depreciation (Got out of the UK300 before the STi7 was launched - got £20k trade in)
Ride (UK300 bit rough on my ageing joints)
Build quality - paintwork on the Scoob was unbelievable.
However - the experience was fantastic and I wouldn't have changed anything - everyone should own a Scoob at some point in their lives (I had two ). I might come back to them - the STi8 looks great and I've found myself being attracted to the showroom again

MY01 WRX sold 'cos I hated it and bought an S3 which I just sold for..
MY03 STI8 just bought.
22B still sitting on the drive.
I still love em, know I've pee'd away thousands on em but it could be worse..I could've left my cash in the FTSE for the last 3 years LOL

Costs of consumables (tyres and brakes) added to servicing insurance and depreciation cost. It suffered a bit with cold clutch judder and on several occasions it was a slapper first thing in the morning.
At the end of the day I couldn't justify having it for the performance and smiles that it did deliver.
I don't regret it at all but feel that I've moved on.

A number of things made me go to the Octavia RS from my Sport - despite test driving the WRX...
Car cost
* Fuel costs
* Servicing costs
* Tin foil bodywork
* Nickability
* Seats - I liked the WRX seats, but the wife said when you were a passenger, they were really uncomfortable.
* Key fob - when I test drove, the key had a nice transmitter built into it for operating the central locking. But for the UK market, apparently they couldn't use that one, so you had to have another transmitter on the keyring. Small detail though
* 03 facelift - I bought in mid 02, so didn't want the value of my car dropping six months later because of a new model
* Bug eyes - still think the style my MY99 Sport was in was much nicer!

Petrol.
We had just moved house with a fair bit of renovation to do. Also, my job changed that I would be doing 20k + a year rather than 10-12k. I could afford the petrol but felt a bit selfish doing it when we needed a new kitchen.
The solution: A silver Civic Type-R
My Scooby was doing an average 22-24mpg unless I was enjoying myself in which case it would give around 17mpg.
The Civic averages 34mpg and only drops to around 25mpg when enjoying it.
Then three months later work gave us all fuel cards so I only have to pay 40% now anyway!!!

Sold my MY00 last Novemeber after 4 years of scooby ownership (previous car MY97). Was put off by
1.Running costs
2.Depreciation
3.Increasingly "Wide" image.
4.Security risk.
5.No aircon (something I always regretted not specifying.
Now Have a car that is rarer, just as fast,more practical,more discreet :

SWRT Wannabee, Sold the STI yesterday, got nothing like I wanted for it. Bills for last 2.5 years 7200 + Petrol + Insurance + tax etc. Had a fantastic time & one day when the market settles I will probably come back, guess 2-3 years, still more crap to come when the STI9 or whatever they call it comes out in a couple of years. The STI 8 Facelift will then probably suffer the same fate as the STI 7. In the mean time getting a Tavia 4x4 at the weekend & we will see

StevieG - you say your Cupra R is 'as fast' as your scoob. Really though, how different is it to drive? I'm genuinely interested to hear from someone who has owned both.
I'm soon looking to upgrade from my 306gti-6, but can't decide between the current crop: WRX, Cupra R, Alfa 147GTA or VW RS32.
Although down on bhp my 306 is pretty quick around all the twisty B-roads and lanes where I live. Only want to upgrade if I'll get a significant performance hike over my current car, as the higher running costs will need justifying.

Various things made me sell my MY99:
Seats made my back ache on 200+ mile journeys
Throttle response/turbo lag
The fact that everyone wanted to race me (despite it being a sensible MY99 Wagon in sensible DBM)
The cost of the two services due over the coming 6 months
Too much understeer
The fact that it was coming to the end of my 2yr finance!
My wife getting an Elise which made the Subaru feel heavy and unresponsive...
But basically if it hadn't been for the finance coming up I'd have kept it. I liked it, although I have no regrets about selling - after I'd had it for 3 months or so, the performance and thrills weren't something I really appreciated so much but the practicality of it was great. Some things it did really well, like 5-up back from a week in Devon, full of luggage, doing 110mph all the way up the M5 - perfect for that sort of task. My list looks like there's loads wrong with it, but there isn't; those are just the excuses I gave myself

Mine will go soon if either of the following happens:
1 - If I dont get a job soon, then it has to go - cant afford the payments/money tied up
2 - If I do get a job soon and its in the right location then Ill sell it for an EVO 6/7, wanted one for ages but have always lived miles from work

I love mine - had it for a year. Yep, petrol's going up, so that's why I'm sticking with the non-turbo! Course, I love taking my mates car (WRX) and full-throttling!
I love the way the car handles and is balanced - I also like the subtle (yet aggressive) lines that the car has. The Mitsi Libero, Toyota Caldina or Carib can't match it. The only thing close is the Legacy and that's much bigger!
I love the way even the smaller boxer engines still have the "blorb blorb blorb" sound...not like the whiney rasps of many others...

Sold my 3rd Scoob for a Seat Leon Cupra after an expensive divorce. Forgetting how bad the car was (and I'm still trying...
), it saved me sod all money each month really. The insurance was only £7 a month less, tyre and service costs were actually higher, and I got 26mpg vs 22 in the Scoobs. No big deal really, so bought an 02 WRX PPP.
Scoobs are expensive to run compared with Fiestas and the like, but against similar machines, for me they're a bargain.

Blip, Just mailed you. Of course, I loved both Scoobs & would consider another in a year or two. But there are too many other good choices of fast affordable car out there now, that just weren't available before. But at, great risk of getting flamed, there is only one that I have always regretted not buying after I test drove one a few years back : EVO VI

Wanted mine as a fast road car/trackday car.
Realised after ploughing a lot of money in, that Scoobs will never make great track cars. They're simply too heavy. And the consumable costs after track days are horrific. Plus the flip side that you make a car as fast as possible on track it's cr4p on road and vice versa. Then theres the point that around where I live you really can't drive fast - so it raised the question of what's the point of having an STI that you can't drive first on road and isn't great (in the overall sense) on track.
Hence the Westie. On road we don't drive it fast - but at 30mph it's more exciting than the Scoob ever was. On track it's not comparable obviously. Then theres the running costs. 30ish mpg (uses NUL), £199 to insure, £11 per brake disk etc etc. It's not any everyday car obviously but we've got one for day to day use.
Don't regret having the Scoob in any way but I certainly don't miss it.

WRX had to go........because just brought STi type RA "555" edition.
Don't know how anyone can say its not practical, its a 4 door saloon with room for a child seat and the shopping, they even made a wagon one so you can get your ski's to fit in
Petrols a bugger, but then if you want performance its a function of (fuel used x percentage efficiency of engine x percentage loss in friction components) x weight of vehicle = performance
give or take a few other factors...
One thing we all forget is on TV they may say the Focus RS is better than a Scooby but don't forget its a UK spec Scooby, so no wonder, I know a Focus RS won't keep with my Scooby in a straight line or round corners as I've driven one and is just a torquey front drive car that you sit too high in. As for Honda Civic type R's almost brought one after seeing reviews but 0-60 & 50-70 times are too slow for same fuel economy as my Scooby (plus £5000 more to buy than wot I have).
Jus my 2 cents as everyone drives different and wants different things from their car, at the end of the day its best to drive one and see if YOU like it and can live with it.
