Hell yeah!!
Following my kerb incident last week I limped the car to my local Subaru dealer who confirmed that the suspension, etc was all ok. The tracking was out so they adjusted that back to the factory settings. In a subsequent phone call the guy that did the bumpsteer and geometry on my car he told me the geometry settings had effectively been un-done
So does it make a difference you ask? Bloody right it does, the car sucks so bad now! Understeer city and the steering doesn’t feel so tight and direct. For those that don’t notice when they get the geometry done try going backwards and you’ll see it’s the best money you’ve ever spent.
Highly recommended to those that haven’t done it

Pass. No idea how its done but it makes a big difference. Colin Noble tried to show me that very little of the suspension was adjustable and it certainly seemed like there was only one arm (tracking) that could be adjusted All I know is that nobles (rightly) put it back to the factory settings and that they suck by comparison to whatever had been done before.

Interesting how you find the handling after the tracking etc that you just had done.
Tracking is all part of the geometry and it is possible to adjust the rear wheel cambers within small parameters provided you are using laser equipment to set it up. The whole setup of front and rear wheel cambers/castor and tracking are interdependent as well as the enormous advantage of removing bump steer. Replacing the bendy plastic anti roll bar links with solid ones makes a significant improvement too. STI's need only the rear links to be replaced since the front links are aleady solid. I had all that done at Power Station and the handling is just magic!
I think you will have to get the suspension set up properly again now-as the man said, it has lost the good set up it had before.

Its worth it all right! I noticed it as soon as I got it done but I notice it even more now that the car is 'back to normal' It just doesn't have the same grip, adjustability and the steering feels dead

I've managed to secure two free MY99 alloys which should be winging their way to me just now - these are to get me mobile again. I'm also completing a deal for another set of wheels

carl555DBM,
I had both done too (geom and eibachs)
I found they made a great difference. The ride actually seems better, the car rolls less but is not crashy over bumps, or even the railway crossing I go across almost every day !
Brun, can you confirm ?

I got bumpsteer and geometry which was about £120 all in with my SIDC discount. I've still got the standard springs and I'm satisfied with the way the car handles for now (well, I will be when the geometry is set up again).

I had Powerstation do my geometry and Eibach's.... great improvement for such a reasonable amount too! The ride feels improved for standard driving, possibly less tyre noise, though I feel the bumps more - but the handling is soooo much tighter!

When I last got new rubber at Micheldever tyres - best deal around for Goodyear F1s they said geometry was set at 0.75 degrees on all wheels which was not what was recommended.
Having driven a range of other performance cars and noting the other participants comments, I think that the previous Japenese owner of this 555 special got it right......It does handle like a gokart on the bends....
What is the correct spec??????

Kenny, Kames is on this w/e with ss-r. No places left this time but spaces can be booked on-line at no cost if you register at www.ss-r.co.uk
Get it on track m8 and we'll see what you can do.

Just a quick thought (as I'm having geometry done by Len @ Subaru4you next week)...
Will the geometry settings increase tyre wear at all? Just remembered that my XR2 from years ago had a real firm ride and it used to go through tyres like stink!
Toyo's are pretty cheap - but I ain't loaded you know?!

I'll think about it over the coming months dougster. I might end up with a full set of MY99's with good toyo rubber at the end of all this and if they can't be sold for reasonable money it would be rude not to wreck them The problem is I'm fairly brutal on the brakes and can't afford to destroy a set of pads much less disks too
I don't have anything to prove either, whether I'm a good driver or not is irrelevant as long as my passengers don't feel unsafe then I'm happy.

How you wear your tyres out all depends what you are doing with the car, if you have the factory settings & spend most of your time hooning round the lanes, you will wear the outer shoulders of the tyres off. On the other hand, if you have the camber & tracking set for better grip & handling, but spend most of your time driving up & down the motorway, you will wear the inner shoulders off the tyres.
At the end of the day they are big heavy cars, with high grip capabilities, something has to give, there is no such thing as a free lunch I'm afraid

Hmm just had the ole geom etc sorted @ TSL, oh & was arm twisted in2 getting new bushes n all , & not sure how much of a factor the bushes & 18"ers over 17"ers had but the car feels totally sweet & the "test route" by TSL made me smile Steering wheel also points in correct direction when going straight now & no longer pulls to one side, although maybe in part from previous tyres unusual wear ! All good thou

I've got my car booked in at Powerstation for the bumpsteer mod this coming Saturday. I already have the Prodrive Handling Pack (STI/Prodrive badged Billstein springs and shocks), so with the bumpsteer done my should handle like a go-cart!!
