Question

Hi all

Sorry can't find if it was already answered, but someone can explain me WHY the WRC motor sounds different than others impreza

At the moment I got 2 explanations : different firing order or the exhaust collector with a different length ???

Thanks
Fred

Think its the equal length pipes in the exhaust manifold (although Rainbowman will probably tell you its because its got a straight 4 Cosworth engine!!!!)

Yes it is the equal length manifolds that do it, takes all the character away from the car IMHO but they are winning events so cant grumble too much.

Cool

Equal length exhaust manifold, Anti lag system, MoTeC management may all play a part, but the manifold is the main reason it's lost the lazy boxer beat!

Diablo : if it's a straight 4 cosworth engine this explain that it sounds like a pity...

Lightbulb

I went to a Prodrive lecture (Hugh Kemp - Eng. Director), and he said the engine effectively was an 'air-pump' at low revs, using the manifold as a combustion chamber to keep pressure up in the spinny thing. (unitl up n running etc blah blah..)

Would that make it sound a bit different to our own beloved machines????
