So how would a classic impreza do, up against.....

Hi all
I have just been reading this months EVO mag, and was wondering how a classic would do up against the new impreza, focus RS, Golf R32.
I know the new impreza is a more 'grown' up car, and having driven a 'bug' eye the experience was different from my classic. My car felt raw and more eager to accelerate.
anyone got any thoughts on this, as a few guys at work are talking alot about the R32's impreza slaying performance?
Ok, so to get to the point (kids in the play ground talk) would MY00 see off a golf R32?

after having a bug eye while my classic was in for a service , i can certainly say that my scoob is deffo more raw and a more eager car , the bug eye was very smooth and felt like it had the edge removed from it , if you know what i mean , yet with the revs kept up , it did shift but you had to work at it ,

The golf is slower than my02 scooby's let alone the slightly quicker classic as i drove it. bit heavy feeling so went for my my02 much more fun and involving so they r talking **** IMHO. and the scoob looks so much better too.
but again thats all IMHO.
Cheers Darren

Test drove an an STi 8 a couple of weeks back and to be honest it felt quite a bit slower in a straight line than my classic MY99 with Ecutek 3. Turbo spool up came much later in the rev range = slow as a pig until 3500 rpm. Was much smoother and quieter though.
Can't comment on cornering ability as it was quite wet at the time and I didn't want to stack the only STi 8 in Holland! Not really worth the GBP 27.5k local asking-price IMHO.

I think EVO were pretty hard on the STi7. They loved it when it first came out and then basically slated it after that. I feel pretty confident that a fully run in(10k + miles on the clock) STi7 would be more than a match for an R32. They are both on the heavy side. I don't know about a standard bugeye though. Who wants to drive a golf though?
Also, I've just spent three days driving the wife's mini cooper and I can't really see why EVO rate it so highly. It has a nice chassis but it's too softly sprung, it spends it's whole life at the dealers getting things fixed, it rattles more than the scoob, its 'kin slow at the bottom end, much slower to pick up than my car, the engine sounds like a food mixer... need I go on?
Suffice to say, when I got back in my car it was NOW WE ARE MOTORING!
