STi 5 Stalling 60 secs after start in the cold
#1
Hi all
Got an STi V. When ever its cold, with 60 seconds of starting the engine and driving off, the engine stalls and i have to restart. Seems to occur when i get to a t junction or roundabout.
The idle unit is clean and fine, as are the soloniods.
Any ideas? Anyone else had the same problem?
Cheers
Brett

I would have thought that it would be better to wait longer than 60 seconds after starting??
Wait until the car has reached operating tempature before driving off. Do less damage to the engine, especially when really cold. IMHO.

Yep the concensus seems to be drive off immediately and stay below 3,000rpm until the car has warmed up. Also trouble with going off the water temp gauage is that the water is warm but the oil is not. Mine shows normal water temp and oil temp still hasnt moved from 50C (lowest point on guage). I usual wait unitl its at least 80C oil temp before using a few more revs.
As for the stalling have you done any mods, i.e. induction kit, replacement non OE filter, non OE dump valve ?

this is totally wrong. drive it immediately (to do with combustion gases being acidic etc) and idling car does not warm up transmission fluids.
