Question

I have a MY99 and have been toying with the idea of a PX on a new car as resale values are taking a hit.

The only thing that worries me is that I don't want to get a brand new car and Subaru to release a new design. I think they screwed the MY01/02 owners over by changing the design so quickly - IMHO.

How long will the MY03 be around before they do a redesign? I'm not saying redesigns are a bad thing - its just evolution - but I would like a car to look fresh for at least 3 years!

the rumour is 3 years 2006 an entirely new model not just a facelift / rework.

I heard 2005, why not get a 02 now, there are heaps of bargains to be found & wait for the new one, the 03 is only a facelift on the 02 + a few little goodies to tempt.
The new one might even have a twin scroll turbo as the Japs are getting or a 2.5 as the Yanks are getting, It might even have looks (prepare for comments)

Quote from http://www.subaruwrx.com/news.html (may02 news)

"Greek design guru Andreas Zapatinas will move to Japan next month to work with Subaru to design the new Impreza for 2006. The current WRX design has been extremely controversial since its initial release in 2000 and many see that this appointment is an admission by Subaru that the current design is a failure.
Most would agree that the current model would receive full marks for performance and handling but its disappointing sales figures are the result of general public opinion that it looks ugly.
Zapatinas will be the "chief designer" and will be in charge of all new models at Subaru for the next generation."

IMO will depend on sales. If the MY03 sells a few million (yeah, right) they'll put off a totally new version until sales drop. The longer they don't need to retool the assembly line the happier they (and their bank) will be.

Cool

I think its a shame that the 'New Age' has the ugly tag. Sure its not Alfa attractive but then its supposed to be a rally-bred road going saloon.

Since when do rally cars look attractive (some 1970's Lancia's being the exception), they look good in a rally car way, not an Italian design flair way. Whilst on about Lancia was the Delta Integrale a work of design masterpiece (stonking rally car - yes)? What about the Sierra Cosworth (or Sapphire Cossy), Escort RS 2000, Mitsubishi Galant (early ones).... None are style statements but all are functional road going versions of race or rally derivatives.

I for one am happy with the looks of my 02 fugly, in fact I'm happy that its looks divide opinion - for me its better than being so bland that no-one even notices it (granted I had to fit morrettes at the front).

If bland and unintersting appealed to me I would still be driving a Vectra!
