I can't decide wether to have a new Subaru MY03 STI PPP or the new Audi S4 which is out in April, the S4 will develop 340hp abd be 4wd agaist the 300hp Scooby but the Audi is heavier so I think the scooby will be quicker. The thing i can't decide is in your face STI or grow up Audi......
mmmmm.
Will the scooby atracted unwanted attention from pod etc or are they to common now??????
I tried the STI PPP MY03 and liked the car alot, felt good etc.
WHAT DO YOU LOT THINK??????
age 28 (a difficult age!!!) no kids (yet)

IMHO go for the Scooby - but as a Scoob owner I would say that!
You drive an Audi down the street and people see it and think, that's a nice Audi and carry on.
You drive a Scooby down the street and people visibly stop to look - whether its admiring glances or not I don't know but the Scooby stands for something a little bit different.
Granted, car boffins are going to stop and look at an S4 (and I wouldn't refuse one if it was given to me)
If you've never owned a Scooby before then I think you should go for it - have a sensible German car later in life.

Only way to be sure is to take a test drive in both. I have yet to drive an Audi that grabs me, but I haven't tried the S4 - probably because of the price ![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
The STI is fantastic, particularly in PPP guise. Can't comment on the Audi, but it's got to be worth trying.

Have driven my brothers S4 - it is a great car and is seriously quick. There is so much torque in every gear it is incredible. Ina straight line it felt as fast as my friends P1 did, once yo were on the move.
The thing I didn't like were the seats - comfortable leather ones with reasonable bolsters but they just didn't hold me in enough. It also handles like it's + 1500 kilos - around roundabouts it did not inspire me to push it hard as the weight loaded up and dragged the car wide. Of course, this was only a 30 minute blast so I didn't really know how to drive "it".
I would say that the performance driving hard is the same as my MY95 (260bhp) but the flexibility of the S4 was awesome.
Typical Audi interior quality - very nice.

As a S4 owner (2.7 V6 Biturbo) and an ex-Scooby owner i would say....buy a 2nd hand RS4
The new S4 is a 4.2 V8 and while it produces 340BHP it won't have the turbo rush ('cos it ain't got no turbos). It's also going to be worth 17-20K in 3 years time (a loss of 20-23K gulp) a RS4 will cost you about the same give or take and is going to worth a lot more than either a Scooby or Audi S4 in 3 years time.
Pays your money etc

If I had the money for an S4 i'd go for an M3, but if I can get the same or better driving experience from an sti at £27,000 ish then thats what I'd do.
Also when your older and you show your kids what car you had in your youth (ahem) you'll be a hero forever with a monster bewinged bad boy sti.

If you want to spend £40 to £45K E46 with SMG gearbox, it is the dogs B (driven one). if you want to protect as much of your money as poss get the conv.
If you want the performce, but have a wife, two kids & a dog, perhaps the RS4.
If you have a wife that insists on having an extension (house that is...) and don't want to spend £45k on a car get the STi8.
I would not get a S4, just didn't like the old one as I got to drive one quite often as we had one in the company.
Mine looks like the STI8 & the new extension.

Depends if you want a car that everyone looks at or a nice Q car.
I am planning to swap my MY00 turbo for a 99/2000 Audi S4 soon, because I want to keep the performance and AWD of the scoob, but want a bit more anonymity and a bit of class. However, I'm 34 with 2 young kids, and I've now done the scooby thing.
BTW, if you can afford a new S4, why not consider a 2nd hand RS4? Better performance, and as a limited edition, more likely to hold it's value than a standard S4.
cheers,
Andy

Tough choice. I'm also thinking about the same two cars in four/five months.
The new S4 will be a different beast to the old S4. I'm torn between turbo and V8. If you like to leave a car std, then the V8 looks a good way to go. If you get bored its expensive to tune.
The STI 8 looks a bit like a dogs dinner to me at the front. In many ways the 7 looks nicer IMHO. However both need paper bags when looked at. The Audi however looks sexy. If your about ultimate 0-60 and point to point then the STI will win. The Audi will certainly be quicker than the 8 above a ton though. The interior will be a nice place to be, where the 8 is still 1980's.
You'll have decent headlights, stereo etc.
One downside of the S4 will be the residuals. Over 3 years you'll lose £15k. An 18 month old RS4 would lose less over the same time and probably as much as an STI 8.
S4 vs RS4 ? Go have a drive of an RS4. One of my favourite cars and certainly better than any Scooby. I had one after my STI 7 so have some insight. I also prefer the RS4 over the M3 SMG, its only adavantge being you can get a brand new one. The S4 will be a mainstream Audi, the RS4 always limited.

Difficult
I have had a 1996 Scooby turbo, 1999 Legacy B4 RSK, a BMW 325 etc before so this not my first Scooby or fast car, I think the Audi may feel heavy in the corners mainly because it is.. It may well have to be the Scooby again all the same.....
The RS4 is a fine car bit don't they have a habit of breaking the rims and i'm sure they have another fault which I can't remember, and the only one i have seen for sale was up at £40k for a second hand, thats alot of cash for a second hand AUDI...

The rim issue is one that Audi have cured by giving out FOC new hard rims or a lifetime warrenty on the softer rims. The rims bend rather than break.
I'm not aware of any other issue with the RS4.
A new S4 is going to cost 40K+ and you will lose a substantial amount of money over the next 3 years. A 2nd RS4 at 40K will lose a lot less money over the same period ('cos it's limited edition and 2nd hand).
The new S4 is some 200Kg more than the previous model so it will feel heavy. It depends on what you want out of a car at the end of the day.
40K would buy you a very nice 993 or 996 Porsche for example.

Or what about a 12 month old E46 M3 SMG for £35,000 (UK car, 11k miles from a UK dealer - friend is the used car sales manager)? Get mine tomorrow. Yippee!! Sorry, could not resist.
