Just a quick one....
How much would you expect to spend on a decent (Type A approved) helmet for using when taking the scoob on track days. I've had a look in the local bike shop, and just wanted to check they weren't too expensive before buying one Average prices for a decent looking one seems to be around £70?
Thanks,
Iain

Approved lids available from www.bookatrack.com for under £50. Not sure of the safety features but as far as getting a legal lid it does the job.

Depends on how much you value your head!
I paid £150.00 for a Sparco Pro Jet (in silver)(as worn by the WRC guys) open face helmet (MSA Approved) for hillclimbing/sprinting.
Demon Tweeks is a good place to start.
Price is the biggest issue but spend the most you can.

Thanks. The Sparco one does look good, but I've no idea what size to order and no shops round here (that I've found) sell them
Anyone any idea where I might find one of these in a shop, (so I can try one on), preferably in the Swindon / Newbury area?

Not sure of any shops in around Swindon, but Demon Tweeks catalogue has the sizes and they confirm 100% exchange if the helmet you buy is the wrong size.
Why not try a Bike shop as they have all the gear for our two wheel friends and you could get you head measured
Very important to get the helmet right - I am delighted with the Sparco one and wear it round the house...........

I'll never wear an open facer again..
Epynt Tarmac Rally, RS Sierra Cosworth - 110mph airbourne and barrel roll creates alot of flying glass and debris into the cockpit
Full face or at least "touring car type" with lower face protection

The MSA ones are Type A/FR approved (i.e. they're fire resistant). This is not something you'll need for a trackday. I'm not saying your car is less likely to catch fire, but unless you have MSA-approved in-car and underbonnet extinguishers, fuel cutoff, a Nomex suit, Nomex gloves, Nomex boots and Nomex undergarments, then making your head fireproof isn't going to help much
I'd be happy with a decent Type A. Paid about £85 quid for mine from a motorbike shop.
If you get a full-face with visor, you can use it when you go karting too. And if you go on any of these 'motorsport experience' type days with open cockpit cars.
