Question

I went to look at a MY98 impreza sport last night and when you revved the engine it sounded like it was suffering from piston slap The car had 81,000 miles on and was generally in good condition but I was put off after thinking about this. Do the Sports ever suffer from this? Also what else do you need to look out for on the sports?

Thanks in advance.

Probably not at the moment. Seems to be a buyers market. Unless you can negotiate some money off that is.

Yes they suffer from pistom slap as I had a 97 R and it needed a new number 4 piton. Subaru did out of warranty but the car had to have history and needed a willing garage to put the claim through. The garage I bought the car from in Edinburgh were going to just leave me to pay for it but the one in Perth put the claim through but after it was done the car did not feel the same again.

All I can say is be very cautious but I am not saying do not buy it but do your homework.

Regards

Graham
