Run in period & rattles in the car

I have had my Impreza Turbo for just over a week now and I must say that this usergroup has provided me with invaluable information. To start with I did not know about the running period. Yes this might sound strange but I have not got the user manual yet. The dealer I bought the car from said that he did not get the manuals yet from Subaru Ireland? Also I enquired about the run in period and the answer I got was "they are factory run in". Anyway enough about that.
Just a few questions:- I notice that it is hard to get second gear when the car is cold.
The other thing that I noticed is slight rattles or squeaks coming from around the centre pillars or where the doors close. However I would not blame the car for rattles because of the roads here in Ireland.
By the way I have only 350 miles up on the car and I have loved every one of these.

Rattles and squeaks are a small price to pay, they are quite common BTW
Hmm, its probably because the car is so new that the gearbox is tight, mine felt like that until about 2000 miles then it all loosened up.

you wouldn't be a man of the cloth would you Ted ![](http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif)
dont go over 4000RPM till 1000 miles and only then after you have replaced the oil, this is VERY important. Also dont labour the engine or use full throttle till the above has been done.
cheers

During the first few thousand miles my car seemed to develope a new rattle everyday.
This continued up to about 6K miles when it stared to level off and actually improve.
I have managed to solve some of the more annoying ones using info from this board,do a search there is loads of advice.
Also I didn't have a single rattle from the dash until I fitted an Anti-lift kit(Small price to pay)

I noticed the same thing on my 1 month old car, it seems to be getting slowly better, I will mention it at the 7500 service if it is not sorted by then.
BTW Mine doesn't seem to rattle that much at all.

I'm also Irish. I've had a 2000 car since December and have had gearbox trouble since day 1 (synchromesh). I had to get a door seal replaced as well.
Since getting the gearbox fixed a couple of weeks ago, it has been tight again (as if new) and it remains a little difficult to get second at times. I agree with everyone so far that has said that things improve as time goes on because mine has improved over the last few weeks no end.
Enjoy driving it - I only wish I was still over there, if only for the roads.

My 99T has done 17,000 miles and is still difficult to get into 2nd when cold. This soon goes when it is warm but along with the clutch vibration (also only when cold) seems to be a foible with the car.
Never mind I haven't stopped smiling yet!
