Cash discounts ???
#1
Anyone know if the Scooby dealers are likely to give discounts for 'cash' purchases ? I'm thinking about buying a new MY03 STI with PPP and 18 inch wheels - list is about 28,800 - any ideas of the level of discount you can get ???

Don't think you will get a discount. What you could do however is agree to take out Subaru finance and negotiate a further discount as you are not only buying a car but taking their finance.
A week later settle the finance with no interest paid
Obviously this will only work if you are able to settle the loan early with no fees paid. Check the paper work.

U can always haggle but the dealer wont really make any difference between cold hard cash & bangin it all on credit card etc. The main bonus points in terms of a "cash buy" r whether u dont need 2 use the places credit or u have 2 do a part X
So blag em 4 all u can IMO cant hurt 2 try they aint guna tell u offended 'em & that u shud remove yerself from premises TRY YER LUCK!!!

My brother is a car dealer and I can tell you cash will get you nothing. The will make nothing more than the profit in the car.
However, introduce the finance into the deal and he stands to make a lot more.
The dealer, of which the salesman wil get a share, will make the difference between what he 'buys'(say 4% flat) the finance at and what he sells it to you for (say 6% flat - 13% APR). £20k car to finance over 48 months - 2% of 20k x 4 = £800, add on a tidy sum for payment protection and another tidy some for GAP insurance and the salesman will think all his christmas's have come at once!!!
Take the lot, don't haggle the interest rate down then go for mats, metallic paint, tank of juice, anything you dare ask for but make sure it's on the purchase order.
Come the day of the races take in your Bankers Draft and don't sign the finance agreement and there is nothing he can do!!!
No part X is a winner though, he will eat into his profit margin to make you feel better about your part X and make you want to change cars.
Go for it and don't fall in love with the car, be prepared to walk away.
