Subaru vehicles to carry G-Book telematics

24 Feb 2003
Toyota and Fuji Heavy Industries have reached an agreement that will see Fuji's Subaru brand vehicles carry the G-Book information and entertainment system developed by Toyota. It is hoped that G-Book will be loaded into Subaru cars to be sold in Japan by 2004. Further details of the agreement are to be released at a later date.
The G-Book telematics system is linked to a vehicle's navigation system and offers a number of interactive services such as karaoke, music download and game playing capability. The system also enables users to customize news reports.

The alliance with Fuji Heavy Industries is an important one for Toyota as it seeks to establish G-Book ahead of competitive offerings such as Nissan's CarWings and Honda's InterNavi. Toyota is hoping that all of its models manufactured after mid 2003 that are equipped with navigation systems will also include G-Book. Will Cypha, which was launched in October, was the first Toyota vehicle to include G-Book.
