I think we all know the answer to that

http://www.reliabilityindex.co.uk/man_index_2.html?searchtype=avgrep

Makes an interesting (and painful) read - wonder how big the sample is, & whether the average repair cost of an impreza is really 2x anything else?

I run mine as a company car.
Cost me £7K last year.
Business is not so good, so might have to get something a bit more economy friendly, if things don't pickup soon.

I think that they are expensive to run if you do a high mileage, compared to a standard Vectra or similar. Compared to cars of similar performance, Audi/BMW etc they are cheaper to buy and run IMHO. A colleague of mine has a 93 BMW 320i, and his services are about double the cost of mine consistently (Impreza's i've had 2 x MY97, 1 x MY01 and now an 02 Sti).

I've never owned an Evo, but when I looked at them the service intervals were so short that has to be costly.

The "Time Off The Road" page is interesting too. I wonder if this is for the same reason as a guide to buying a used Impreza said "look out for models where the owners enthusiasm outweighs their ability"

Ha ha

Only over a thousand for the average repair.... PAH

Obviously they didn't survey me or the average would just have jumped up considerably

Most recent bill paid last week was £3567.85
Prior to that £1680.25 last September

Taking everything in account, the costs involved in running my E39M5 are the same as would be for a new STI8. You pays yer money.............................

I must be doing something wrong. I'm on my 4th Scoob and the highest bill I ever had was for a service including rear discs and pads. The discs came under warranty FOC, but I had to pay for the pads. Total £536 as I recall.

Mine have mostly been under warranty, so i'm sure that makes a difference.

A couple of things strike me about these figures.

First, they are not running costs, they are repair bills.

Second, the figures are attributed to Warranty Direct, who I would assume would have most contact with import owners, and we've all read about the time and expense that can be involved in fixing a jap import.

UK cars have a good warranty, and with the option to extend it I can't see how you could get those kind of figure. Personally, my biggest bill was also a service, and that was around the £460 mark, yet I know of out of warranty Merc owners who've had bills of £700-£1000 for small services + a few consumables (brake pads)

Cant toast it now, (Sti7) uprated fuel pump and Knocklink going on next week. Then I can maybe think about Knockhill again, my tyres are about shot again, so I could waste them completely there.

Oh no, how much did that lot add up to? kinell

It's been a sad year as far as repairs have gone mate

Gearbox (3rd gear ) sourced by dealer from a brand new rolled WRX but by time fitted etc Cost was £1680.

Then after a wheel bearing my next delight was a new short block when piston no2 decided it would play at being ice cream on a hot day )

That bill coupled with new discs and pads all round (4th set of front pads in 16 months and 25k miles) and it's 90k service came to £3,567.85.

Then there's the mods (few), and colour coding which I haven't bothered adding up as I'm too scared and another few small repairs. Oh and there's the 16 tyres over 25k miles

It's quite cheap really

Wow I'd have been getting rid of it by now. Touch wood I've never had anything big go wrong.

What I have done is trade a car in, when I knew the brakes were completely shot, having already spent £500 on new Brembo pads and an ABS ring we broke fitting the discs.
This was an "upgrade" (went horribly wrong) to fit a set of Brembo Calipers and discs I got FOC, I couldnt bring myself to spend another £500 just on the brakes. The discs warped inside a week, after I got them skimmed, so no wonder they cost f/all!!

So I will have lost the money also, but not as a repair bill, on a deflated trade in price. Dealer didnt know the brakes were goosed, he didnt drive it. hee hee.

Okay, maybe I'm kidding myself, but I still think performance for pound, nothing comes close (running costs included).

Bought my STi3 4 years ago. Service it myself (yes I know what I'm doing) biggest thing that's gone wrong in 40k miles is a new battery. And I don't treat it with kid gloves - it's no stranger to the redline @7,800 rpm.

Expensive to run - not in my experience and I've had Subaru's for 10 years. BMW's, now there's a different story.............

I remember the thread when you debated getting rid of the car.

I seem to be able to wrestle my own money from the clutches of my fiancee to replace the car every couple of years, but when it comes to mods, she freaks.
I need to get smarter, I'll get my expenses paid in cash, and spend that on the car...
What is it with women, they'll happily spend £40/week on face creams/cosmetics and if you spend the same on the car it's light the blue touch paper.

Good luck with your "new" car! Hope it dont break..
