Left a friends house with wife and baby yesterday and had just strapped baby into seat when a car ( Volvo estate ) drove by and hit the door ... luckily the baby was in his seat so i took most of the impact ,the c**t in the volvo didnt bother stopping and im left with a nice dent in the door. i managed to get his reg number but didnt really want to start a high speed chase with baby in car..
I just wandered how i stand im going to the police station to report it this evening ... can they do anything

Get down there straight away with the peice of paper with the other cars details on it, cause if (and I know it's a BIG if) and when it goes to court, this can be used as evidence. Ie, it was written down at the time of the offence.
Glad to hear you and the kiddie were all okay,
Best of luck,
Ed

Most definately report it to the police..
But.. IIRC if the door was open onto the road you may get in trouble yourself...
Just making sure you look at both sides...
It can be quite a harsh punishment driving away from an accident, lets hope they catch em!!!!!

As said above report it. What's the worst that could happen? Hopefully his paint will still be on your car so that the police could get a match. You just have to hope that the car is registered. Sadly these days it may not be
Good luck with it and keep us posted please.

Beatle,
I take it that the door already open?? The only offence that I can think off when it comes to open doors, is opening causing a danger to other road users. If it was already open, say perhaps because you were strapping the baby in, I can't see there being a problem.

Good advice on the collecting of evidence/witnesses etc.
From past experience it could take about 6 months before anything happens, then the local constabulary will pay him a visit with 6 points.
PS Hows your neck????????????
Get yourself to casualty with the missus.
Good to hear littlun is OK

Report it,
The only thing it's going to cost U to start with is 30 minutes of your time. They may even give you a form to fill in at home.
Also, if they get a full admission from the other driver, it's HIS insurance that will pay out, not YOURS!!

If your door was already open as he was approaching then you cannot be blamed. Its only if you open your door into his car as he reaches you. He is certainly in the wrong for not stopping after the accident and I reckon you have all the facts in your favour. I would certainly report it to the police as soon as you can, you should certainly be able to get your door repaired at his expense.

Report it ASAP.
My mate at work has a drink driving conviction and a failure to report. According to him the failure to report is the one which makes his life hard when it come to renewal time.
