this is probably the most crucial item on a service..dont skimp or take a chance.broken belt means instant suicide for ur engine and u when u get the bill..on my old calibra doing abot 30mph every valve was shagged when one of the wheels round the belt shattered poss head and piston damage

My service book (retro-purchased) also says cambelt at 45k, even though i have a MY00.
I'm having mine done this week (@60k, costing a small fortune )
You might do well to offset some of that 60k service by having it done at 45k.
I also think i read on here that if your cambelt goes during extended warranty they wont pay out? Can anyone confirm?

I had the same problem on my MY99.
Dealer said 45k Subaru UK said 60k.
Car had had its 45k service at around 35k (time rather than miles)and the dealer hadn't changed it.
I bought the car thinking the 45k service had been done but on reading the service history they had scrubbed out the "cam belt changed" writting with pen.
I complained and it was changed on the next service and a written note to that effect was put in my service book.
Like previous replys - change it - sod's law say's it WILL break if you don't.

MY00 cam belt change is at 60K.
Only problem is some MY00’s were registered late 1999 and some dealers have a problem with it being a 2000 model registered in 1999 !
Got my dealer to check it out and MY00 models are apparently identified by the 10th letter of the chassis/vin Number being a ‘Y’.
Correct me if I’m wrong but that’s what they told me.
Put this up ‘cos I’d hate anyone who had a MY99 thinking it’s a MY00 not getting the cam belt done at 45K.

I'll check the Subaru extended warranty does cover cam belt damage - I'd of thought it should though. I'm not too worried as mine only done 22k miles so a long way to go before even 45k.

To add to your confusion, I have a MY97 Turbo (220 ps)that would be the equivalent of a UK one with a 100k kilometer (62k miles) interval for cambelt and spark plug change, as stated in the owner's manual. Regular oil and filter change is at 12.5k kilometer (7750 miles).

i have an import my01 with 3rd party 2nd and 3rd year warranty. on the same year uk model the service was about £200 but on mine it was £400. mine was due to get a major service including changing spark plugs, the uk model now has a interim service. i was told the uk model gets its plugs changed at 60k instead of 30k for my import. Its a total swiz, they are exactly the same car but with now different service requirements. having no subaru warranty i choose to take the uk servicing route.

Just to let everyone know that I had my 45K service yesterday and expected a nice fat bill for a new camblet.
I'm now £150 out of pocket coz it's been changed to 60K instead.
I have a MY99 RB5 (registered May '99).
