Hello all,

Got this through the post this morning, has anyone else had such a letter:

"Our service records show that your Subaru Impreza should now be due for it's next service (which I've already booked in). Should your vehicle be fitted with air conditioning you may want to consider having it's annual service carried out at the same time for the special price of £45.00 plus VAT. By booking both services together you will be saving £20.00 from the normal retail cost of air conditioning service".

Don't get me wrong, I think it's good of Subaru to contact me and make me aware of possible savings but it's just that I've never experienced any seperate air conditioning services with other manufacturers. Your advice/comments will be appreciated.

Most A/C units are serviced by speciallists as its cheaper than buying all the equipment
If your car isnt suffering warm air and is still blowing cold/fresh smelling air when on re-circ, then i wouldnt have it done (and you dont really need to have it done annually, every 2 years is enough).

I've had four Impreza Turbos and none of them have needed the air con servicing.

Name me a main dealer that doesnt contract out the Aircon work... As long as you use it during the winter and at least 2 hours a month to keep the seals fresh you should be ok for 3-4 years.

You'll do well to beat £45 for a re gas/seal replacement nearby (I've checked).

But if the ubits functioning properly they'll only squirt in some anti mildew additive to keep it smelling sweet.

Rip off; No I dont think so.

Necessary, your choice.

Thanks for the comments guys. What I should have mentioned in the first place is that my motor is only 12 months old. Everything seems to be working fine so I don't think I'll bother having it done, then again it's only money so I might and it's additional paperwork for the next potential buyer to look at.

Enjoy your weekend.
