At the moment everytime subaru releases a new car mitsubishi always has to go one better and release one that is twice as good as the last.

Thumbs up

Evo Versus Subaru bugeye
Handling + 20%
Power + 15%
but
Cost to buy + 15%
running cost + 20%

Evo Versus Subaru NOW
Handling + 15%
Power + 10%
but
Cost to buy + 20%
running cost + 20%

So I reckon Subaru have pulled a bit back IMHO

you pays your money and totaly depends on what YOU want from a car (track car, fun car, shopping car or all three) and how much you want to spend on it.

Subaru and Mitzy are direct competitors and would expect x% of the market If IM/Subaru found they were uncompetitive then would try tweak the fiqures to bring back their market share Hence the price drop since the Bugeye.

IMHO

Tony

Bugger, those mitsubshi chaps were ruddy clever.

Fancy them coming up with this Evo 5 special edition: Evo V Subaru bugeye

Next on the list is the Evo VIII Subaru slighty-less bugeye.

TBH, it looks like they gave up trying to match/beat them a few years ago.

nah i think they stopped for a while to see what there boffins could think of up at prodrive now that they've found something that could only slightly compete with the evo's. The race is back on for scoobys

LOL

STI8 PPP v EVO 8

Never really behind when you think that you were comparing SVA-ed EVOs against fully type approved UK imprezas. Unless you were talking JDM STIs which also had the SVA-ed and were same power 280PS and lighter than the equivalent MY EVO, giving a better PTW ratio .

Have you driven a late JDM classic STi impreza ???

Chrisp, Why do you ask about driving a orginal JDM impreza sti? Just wondered what your point was as I am probably looking to get an sti6 Type R. Kinda wondered how they would compare to an EVO8 or Sti 8 PPP ? Prefer the old shape.

Thoughts ?

yeah subaru got all its good comments from the classic but.......... also got most of its bad comments from the mistakes of the bug eye. No haven't had the chance to get in the new sti 8 yet the new prodrive looks to be a good competator for the evo 8 but modified the subaru has massive limitations compared to the mitsubishi's which is unfortunate cos i would love to see one of them at least hit the 200 mark the Norris evo 7

The old classics are completely different from the new STI8s. Due to crash regulations and that the Subaru has become very popular and rather than being brought by a few in the know they have to appeal to a wider audience and more mainstream car buyer rather than the out and out petrolheads who would put up with rattles and squeaks and hard suspension etc etc.

Also due to crash protections the newer cars are heavier which means for the same power a classic will have a better power to weight ratio you may find that the harder suspension on the type R will make it more difficult and unpleasent to drive down a bumpy road and that an STI8 PPP would be easier to drive at the same speeds.

It really depends on what you want and you should think hard about one before handing over your cash on a JDM car. They are fairly cheap at the moment but residuals arent good .

As much as I love my JDM classic, if I was new to Subarus and had the money I would be seriously looking at an STI8 PPP to be honest. As I prefer to know how the car has been treated. These cars arent just used to nip down the shops and the bits are very expensive to replace.

I maybe wrong but all EVOs (JDM and ones sold through UK dealers)had to be SVA-ed as they werent type approved.

i was making a point in a weird way was just wondering why a sva'd evo would be different from a uk scoob for comparisons as all evos are the same regardless of uk car or import

I was just trying to point out if you want to compare EVO to scoob you need to compare like for like. The UK scoob is different and less powerful but met full UK type approval. If you want to compare a non type approved car then you need to compare it with a JDM impreza.

The EVO has a better building block if you want to mod them but standard for standard or lightly modded versus lightly modded they aint a great deal in it with the JDM cars.

Live on an island made up of 90% twisty roads and used to have a UK Turbo 2000 and loved that. Need a change and always fancied an Sti.

So how much do you think for sti 6 R in your view?

What you got anyway ?

I have a non-STI MY00 WRX Type RA Limited

Not sure about price as they seem to change on a daily basis. Maybe seriously worth thinking about getting it remapped to run on lower octane fuel. The other option maybe a P1 ??

Thoughts on what fuel to run it on seem to vary. Is super unleaded enough ? Car would not be used for track days.

.... it's all very well saying that Mitsubishi are way ahead etc etc (in fact I probably agree - I would certainly like an FQ-300!)

but having said that, where are they on the WRC scene - they can't even put a proper car together for it!!!!

Surely that is the acid test.

Maybe we should all trade in our Scoobies and go and buy Pugs (back to the old days eh)
