5 type R, i dont know what is the best launch, as i killed the clutch by incorrectly launching at 6500. I was feeding in to start with, but after the clucth died, no matter what i tried, it still appeared to launch like i had just dumped it and forgot to press the loud pedal.
Harveys car is good, and sounds fantastic on full throttle IMO.
My car is like Harveys, and every day car, a UK MY00 Wagon doing approx 600+ miles a week, gets used for family outings and so forth, so has to be a good all rounder for me.
My spec is HKS Airfilter, MD304 turbo, APS FMIC, Tim W Up Pipe, uprated fuel pump, 550cc injectors, 3" downpipe, HKS Hiper mid and back, Link ecu, thats it engine wise really, rest is suspension and brakes.
I think it would have been interesting for Harvey and i to go against one another on the day, although he would have clearly won, it would have given a good comparison, as i think we were the 2 fastest cars there??, just a shame the clutch died.
Roll on 27th April, new clutch by then hopefully.
Harvey, well done
Steven
edited cause i got the cc's wrong on the injectors.

Christian is 460 bhp proved or an estimate i saw your car at well lane which didnt produce these figures due to wheel slippage. Have you had it rolling roaded since then as everyone saw Andy F do 432 bhp which AFAIK would make Andy Fs the most powerful scoob. Correct me if i am wrong

I know this isnt exactly the right forum, but could you please
let me know what all these mods do to your insurance premium
I have only replaced my back box and have ordered a scoobysport
centre section on monday. Other than that and 17 OZ superlegs,
and colour coding my car is standard
I have informed my insurance of the changes so far.
If i replace the downpipe and so on, i hate to think what would
happen to my premiums
I have full no claims and am not exactly a youngster
I just wondered how much your premiums could be loaded
Greg
ps
i know one option is to keep shut

Sorry, i am perhaps being simple which i can be
If by having to change to 5th at 106 before the end of the run, then it is obviously accelerating quicker than a UK geared car with similar power, obvioulsy due to the time.
I just wonder whether it is down to the gear ratios and lightweight nature of the RA, as opposed to power.
ie if both cars had the same bhp and torque, yet the RA was quicker, then the benefit of the shorter gearing outweighs the disadvantage of changing gear an additional time.

Harvey,
12.28sec'/116mph is a great improvement over your last Elvington 1/4 times( 12.48sec'/110mph) but I'm confused by the top speeds.
First time you got 158.3 in 1km (5/8 mile) but this time 159.7mph over 1.25 miles (2km) and still accelerating.
Does anyone know the difference in drag between the 2/4/5 doors ?
Mark.

Nice one Harvey! Quality figures
I spent the day at Santa Pod and managed
13.201@105.41
13.286@105.82
13.383@105.04
13.387@105.67
I am running 310bhp/300lbft so basically the
extra 100horses equates to a second quicker (mammoth difference in drag terms ) and 10mph.
Was shortshifting at 6500rpm due to keeping it within peak power but now perhaps think if I hung on to say 7500 or 8500rpm it would be more beneficial.
I tried varying different launches and although they all felt very different the times just kept coming in the same????
Any ideas for optimum launch and also optimum gear change.
(BTW STI 5 Type R)
Well done Harvey.
The only car that seemed in that level at the pod was the Tommi Makinen guy from this forum who ran between a 12.1-12.5 i think.
Not sure his mods but I believe he was running at 2 bar on his hybrid turbo

I think on both occassions it was 1.25mls approx but whatever it was,it was the same for everybody.
Tim Whiteside did 166mph + and Plantie did 160+ at Elvington last August/ September but at a longer distance I think.
The car is an every day road car like 320mls yesterday before most people had their breakfast and is in use everyday and is just as drivable as a standard WRX. Externally it looks like a standard wagon plus discrete FMIC, 130W PIAAs and Super Legs so other than that maybe you are confusing me for somebody else.
Today I will do a similar milage before bed time and may not have to go anywhere far for a few days.
How do you measure the fastest Scoob? Top speed, best 1/4 ml or quickest lap time? I have no idea and have not set off to be the fastest as there will be cars out there which are certainly faster but not many.
Christian, as you seem to know, what is the fastest Scoob?

Lots to spend if I want to get my times down then!
Managed 13.8@101.15 at the pod on sunday (96 WRX) only mods at the moment are total decat.
I'm sure the wife will be overjoyed to see the new "things we must buy instead of shoes" list

From: Leeds - It was 562.4bhp@28psi on Optimax, How much closer to 600 with race fuel and a bigger turbo?
What power are you now running harvey?
Any traction problems??
Is it deminishing returns over a certain power level??
Just wondering if my power will make much difference... there's a fair difference in power between stevens and harvey's yet steven did rather well ???
Weight differences?
Torque?
I would have thought 400/500 bhp should do 11??
David realises he's not going to do the 1/4 he wants
This is not a dig at either car, It can be taken that way when mine is finished though

It is impossible to say what is the best r.p.m to launch at because it depends on the track conditions on the day. If the track is extremely grippy, you will find launcing at a higher r.p.m is beneficial, but if the track is slippy, a lower r.p.m is advisable.
A good 60 foot time for a 4wd is 1.8 seconds, 1.7 is excellent and 2.0 is average. These times are for a dry track. Obviously, for a damp/wet track, the 60 foot times will be higher than these.
Santa Pod is a good example, as earlier on in the year, times are slower.
From March onwards, times start getting quicker as the track has more time to. I have always found the quickest times at Santa Pod were done in May, as after that, the temperature goes up, hence the charge temperature going up as well.

To my knowledge tim's 166.6 was also on the 1.25 mile stretch at elvington, as was planties.
posted by Tim on this thread.
"I lost about 1.5 secs to Neil on the 500m from a standing start with my somewhat less brutal launch technique...although in the interests of science I did continue acelerating through the gate on one run and saw my revs creap over 7000 before lifting off...the car was still pulling even then...
Elvington, from memory, has a runway and service roads over 2.5 miles in length, I know that when we ran the timing was either over 1.2 or 1.25 miles...they later did some runs at 1.4 which is when Ronnie went over 200mph"
