Red face

Driving home, had already done 15 miles or so with the light on, half way down the motorway I heard it chug !! Oh **** !! So I cruised out of gear down the very handy slip lane, through some lights, one more squeeze of the pedal and the electrics went, power steering and brakes went.......drifted down the hill and drove unpowered into the garage at the bottom of the hill.

How lucky was I? very, luckily I knew the garage was there. Wont be such an idiot next time, hope it hasnt done any damage ??

You only get 15 miles on the warning light ?

I would get that seen to, I get 40 at least out of mine which is more than enough time to find a fuel station.

i have certainly done 50 miles on warning light in my MY00 wagon, and that was driving at the speed limit where conditions allowed.

However, last week, the car did chug into the garage up hill 58.6 litres later and it was full again.

Have learnt this lesson - ran out of fuel in my old jeep worse still when the car ran dry it sucked all the dregs out of the fuel tank blocked the fuel filter and carbs - result was a misfiring mess which cost a lot of cash to put right.

Cool

Always carry a 5L plastic fuel canister - never have the problem. Plus don´t try this on the German autobahns - you will get a VERY large fine!

I had done 15 ish miles b4 heading for home, I guess it was 15-20 miles when I got to the garage so I got no more than 35 miles on the light

as mentioned in other threads ... my sti8 starts spluttering under acceleration/cornering as soon as the light comes on. manual says 9l left when light on (out of 60l tank). when i go to fill up as soon as light comes on i can get 55l in. that seems to stack up with the spluttering ie only 5l left.

i guess simple really ... dont get to the warning light and if you do run for the nearest SUL pump.

Unhappy

The light on my MY03 WRX came on just as it started to splutter. I managed to get a further 1.5 miles before it ran out completely. (Had to abandon it on a roundabout and walk). I expected to get a little further after the light came on!

sounds like you literally did have to run for SUL !!

just spoke to my dealer who is fitting PPP as we speak and he said he'd get the guys to "have a look" seeing as they are fitting a new fuel pump as part of PPP - which was a surpise. i'll put that in another thread.

Light? What's all this talk of a light? Mine (MY98 Cat) doesn't have a damn light! Or indeed, an accurate fuel guage...

Luckily I was less than a mile from the nearest SUL supply, so didn't feel too much like a prat - until I had to stand filling it from a can while being passed by heavy traffic.

I really miss the digital readout of miles left in the tank that I had on the old BMW though (previous car).

Cool

i still like the description in SIDC FAQ
Engine Engine splutters to a halt. Caused by driver enjoying him/herself so much they fail to notice they were running low on fuel :-) All Imprezas
lol all u can do is make sure u fill up when still at a healthy level i nearly always fill with almost 10 litres left but a few scares r inevitable when u 4get how thirsty that turbo is, but mucho fun
Si (without a warning light still)

Absolutely! I can't deny that the 'problem' was due to too much smiling.
