Decline in quality of Haynes manuals

They may not publish an Impreza manual but given the quality of their manuals I've purchased for other cars in the last few years I wouldn't care.
Am I the only one to think that Haynes have seriously gone down hill ?
I've got a Sierra one for my Cossie which must be best part of 20 years old and it's fantastic - lots of exploded views, more photos and generally comprehensive. I've also got one for an Omega I had last year and it's terrible, hardly any diagrams, half as many photos (all with bad contrast) and half the size.
I know they do one for a Legacy, how's that ?

Agreed. Those produced up until say around 1990 were of much better quality than those produced since. Better quality paper, photographs and size of photos and diagrams which have been reduced in size or even omitted in later volumes. I have accumulated a small collection over the years and noticed this sometime ago.

The bike manuals are the same, I have an early yamaha XT 500 manual(about 1977) which is superb, has all the manufacturers assembely drawings etc straight from the parts fiche, later ones I have are not of the same quality, oh and remember, "Replacement is a direct reversal of removal"

I bought one for MrsREV's Clio and thought it was crap compared to ones I used to use all the time. At the time I thought maybe I only thought it was crap because my mechanical knowledge had improved

Heh, it's not just the new ones, i got one many years ago for my A series Opel Manta, doing the carb rebuild started it and found that they included the same pages three times and the really important bit was missing!
Still, i learned my lesson and completly read up before hand in future.

Yep, also had some of the old ones. Classic statements like "1: Remove the tamperproof cap" and how to make up a stereo extractor using some bent bits of coat hanger.
Now the equivalent is "refer to dealer" for the tamperproof cap and "You will require <manufacturer_name> tool no KA136 to remove the stereo" (when it's the same four holes)

I think they stopped describing themselves as "workshop manuals" and started being "service and repair manuals" sometime in the early 90's. When they changed they became a lot worse.
