Have just bought my first Scooby (MY2000 Classic) and im absolutely loving it!!

But...

The cars next service is due at 30K or 24month...which ever comes first (been reading my Subaru Owners Manual!!)

Anyway...

My question/dilemma is: the car has only done 20000 mile, been well looked after (had its regular 7500K oil/filter change) but i know in monthly terms its service is over due..so....should i get it done now or wait till nearer the 30K mark??

would be greatful for any 'helpful' advice you lot out there could pass on.

Cheers lads....and lasses!

Besides the technical/mechanical reasons that I am sure something who knows what they are talking about will give you, you need to be careful on this one - if you deley the service beyond the proper time, it may invalidate any warranty that you have on the car - if you read the service book it says something along the lines of "the car must be serviced within 1 month or 1,000 miles otherwise your warranty fails" type thing!

Cheers

I've also got a MY00 Turbo which does low mileage. Fortunately, my local franchised dealer is very helpful & always tailors the servicing to by car's needs, & charges accordingly. Hopefully, your local dealer will be as accomodating. Might be worth calling them for a chat?

Question

If you have an MY00 then you should be looking at either the 37.5k service or a 45k service.
I would personally get the service done that the car needs (if the car has been doing alot of stop/start driving then it actually suffers more than one that does long runs!)
Never skimp on the servicing, if dealer prices seem a little extreme then go to a certified speciallist who can and will do the service for considerably less

Thanks for the advice Tom, Tim and Tony!

The car has no warranty left on it so theres no worries there.

The car does do alot of start/stop miles and can undrstand that this would put greater stresses and strains on the vehicle, will have to get in touch with my local dealership to enquire and as yet know of no other buisness's that service Subarus or 4x4 in the North East area. (anybody help out there on that?)

Tony - notice that you live in 'Northern England'.... some may say thats Manchester area....but where do u get your car serviced?

Any other helpful comments would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

regular oil changing is the key to running a problem free turbo. oil degrades over time which is why you should always do the mileage *or time* - whichever comes first...

Yup,
im from the manchester area and my next service (3yr) is at Prosport in Stockport (but body service at main dealer, cars an eu import).
There is Revolution up by you though (middlesborough area??) that are a subaru speciallist and should do servicing, post in either 3rd party dealers or northern to get an address (or do a search).

Tony

Revolution is in Newcastle, 30 min drive for me. Will contact them as soon as.

My car is also an EU import uk spec car.. theres no difference to servicing arrangements for this as to a car bought in the UK?

What to you mean by body servicing?

So many questions! so much to do....

[thought to myself: wish i stuck with the Saxo!?? NO CHANCE!!!]

Thanx again to all that help!

Tony,
where is Prosport, can you give directions from Sale. The car needs it's first MOT.
I would like somewhere local that is recommended by other owners. I don't want the car messed about with unduely if you see what I mean.
Thanks Nige

Hello CLewis!

Have a look on the Tyne Tees Scoobies website and get in touch with your local owners group - they will be able to point you in the right direction re local servicing
