Thinking of Import WRX MY03
#1
Hi
Im looking into importing a uk spec wrx my03. Just a quick couple of questions. Do I have to have the car serviced by a subaru dealer in order not to void warrenty? Also any one any ideas what mpg I should expect.

Has any one managed to get a uk dealer to come down to import price. Also if I get a friend (ex mechanic and impreza owner) to service it will it void the warrenty uk or import.

Yes is the short answer to the "price" question, providing you're realistic in exchange rate... And want a wagon
Also, bear in mind that to keep your warranty you will need 6 monthly services - uk supplied cars have 12 months. Yes, I know it's the same bloody car , but when another country is providing the warranty, they make the rules.
Also also, if you want PPP, you will have to get it fitted in the country of origin. Even prodrive can't fit it and retain your warranty.
For the Wagon, it wasn't worth importing. The saloon might be worthwhile, but do add on the extras, such as 3 years subaru assist, alarm, transport (x3 if you want ppp ) and bear in mind the exchange rate...

New Benelux cars have a service interval of 12months/15000 miles with an additional oil change at every 7500miles (so for a low milage car it's a service every 12 months). MY03 cars are still being shipped with the old service books, hence a *lot* of confusion.
Note that there at least isn't any confusion for the UK cars (although you still might want an oil change before 10000 miles).
The rest of your post is valid

Sorry naturbo - I've been dragged into this confusion too because the last I knew, they still had 6 month service intervals.
If the MY03 has yearly service intervals, brilliant! My apologies for the confusion; I'll try and remember that

Woz - import price used to be in the 16k-17k range (before Christmas) which made them an absolute steal!
Since then, the exchange rate has shifted somewhat, and even those advertised as 16-17k will turn out to be 18k+ at the moment (The small print in the adverts will say something like "assuming an exchange rate of 1.59 - which you won't get anywhere!)

I'd say even 19k is a good price for a UK car (until the exchange rates change). If I didn't get such a good price on an import then it definately wouldn't be worth the confusion (+ potential servicing hassle) it causes.
BUT
don't go thinking mats and locking wheel nuts is enough to sway the deal - Gertjan provides nuts and his own branded mats as part of the price

Stan Palmers quoted on here
"Can do a new WRX 03MY in metallic with 265bhp conversion, Prodrive back box, colour coded side skirts for £20345"
seems a good price for a uk dealer
i imported 3 years ago but not so sure i would do it again due to the exchange rate
