I was browsing the net today (purely work related of course) and stumbled across this website that locates Shell garages for you. I thought it might come in handy when travelling to ensure the tank remains filled with the "good" stuff.

Just thought I'd add this reply I received from Shell UK, when I posed the question of any chance of one nearer my house and one that didn't shut at 10pm!!...
"Hello Mr Izard,
As you may be aware the UK Retail fuel market is one of the most intensely competitive in the world and consequently this has meant we have had to closely examine the viability of those service stations in our network. Additionally there has been an industry trend of a declining number of stations, which has been going on for many years. It has however become more pronounced in recent years because the total market is not growing and the supermarkets are taking an ever-increasing proportion of fuel sales.
Shell is facing this competition by concentrating on its best outlets and investing in these to provide the highest quality stations and products with the best customer service and customer loyalty scheme. Unfortunately the costs involved mean that we must be more rigorous in our selection of outlets if we are to continue to be profitable, and have a smaller network as a consequence.
Shell Rayleigh is indeed the nearest in your locality, I am very sorry for the inconvenience you are now experiencing when purchasing Shell fuel. Whilst we will always remain on the lookout for opportunities to expand our network, regrettably I am unable to reassure you that our sites in your area will be expanding in the near future."
Well it seems Basildon is out of luck, still im not putting more expensive 97 RON from the Green garage in the town centre (mentioning no names)
