Just thought I'd add this reply I received from Shell UK, when I posed the question of any chance of one nearer my house and one that didn't shut at 10pm!!...

Unfortunately the costs involved mean that we must be more rigorous in our selection of outlets if we are to continue to be profitable, and have a smaller network as a consequence.

Shell Rayleigh is indeed the nearest in your locality, I am very sorry for the inconvenience you are now experiencing when purchasing Shell fuel. Whilst we will always remain on the lookout for opportunities to expand our network, regrettably I am unable to reassure you that our sites in your area will be expanding in the near future."

Well it seems Basildon is out of luck, still im not putting more expensive 97 RON from the Green garage in the town centre (mentioning no names)

if you call them, they can send you a little booklet ( maps, locations, services) of all the shell stations in the UK - very handy
